Guys, I have a coolant leak. It is leaking from the hose that attaches to the passenger side, bottom of the water pump and runs to the firewall. The leak is coming from what appears to be an in-line valve of some sort. Now the hose is crimped on both ends of this valve and the coolant is keaking from the crimp.
Is this valve necessary? Can I just run heater hose from pump to firewall?

Use Search function: ASM valve Lt1 heater hose.
The best way to remove those types of clamps is use a dremmel saw to notch clamp from end to end without going all the way through and wind up cutting the tube underneath. Once notched or cut some other way, you just pry off the clamp. Your search should recommend some options other than wasting money on a complete hose assembly.

Since you live in S. Fla. I wouldn't be too concerned about any negative effects from deleting the "flow reducing" valve from the heater hose. I guess the reason for reducing the flow in the first place is to lessen the possible errosion of the heater core from too high a pressure from the coolant entering the core from the pump. The valve supposedly reduces the pressure a bit. I'd take my chances, especially since you probably rarely use your heater anyway. And cost and PIA of replacing the entire inlet hose would rival the cost of replacing a bad core, should that ever occur.
Just remove the clamps and the valve and replace a portion of the hose using clamps and tubing. JMHO
