need some advice on what direction to go
need some advice on what direction to go
after racing and getting my *** kicked by my buddys 02 LS1 Z28, and then riding in it and seeing how much nicer and tighter it is, and realizing that my 112k Z28 will probalby need alot of money put into it to get 400rwhp RELIABLY, im debating what to do next.
i can either sell it and buy a LS1 Z28 or TA(for under $11,000), throw LE2 or 190cc AI heads/cam package on my 88k LT1 motor in my garage and drop that into my car, work my *** off and try to afford my dream 383 with a forged compstar rotating assembly and 200cc AI heads/cam package, or to just leave my car alone until i graduate in 2 years cuz it runs fine now and will probably make it the next 2 years without problems if i leave it alone.
i could hopefully get 5 grand for my car if i sell it, and between all the other crap i have to sell ill have 5 grand more to play around with and spend on this stuff. the key is RELIABLE cuz i have a 500 mile drive on the highway to and from school, and dont need to be breaking down halfway. this is my daily driver, and gas milage matters a little...but not much. thanks guys.
oh yea if i build the LT1, ill need headers, injectors, throttle body, clutch, and probably some other stuff.

Your 112 Z28 is a relic with basic bolt on's. Old beatdown engine, and basic bolton's ain't gonna keep up with no LS-Junk. You need to sit down and figure out your life and your man hood. Are you man enough to own a truly powerful LT1 or do you want to wuss out and sell your wiener and buy an
LS-Junk. Only a real man can build and handle the power of the Iron block. Leave those aluminum block sissy mobiles for guys that wear pink shirts, and use coasters when they drink.
does that give you your answer bufmatmuslepants?

i say leave it, and after grad. you can get a full time job and you can afford what ever you wanted to do. but if you decide to keep it, you can still do more upgrades untill you do the 383, or even start buying parts now. after 2 years you should have every thing you need.

eeooww, your going to start a war
Realize the LS1 isnt built that much better than a LT1. Theyre all cheap cars. You say yours rattles, but the LS1 is going to do the same thing under the same usage.
Leave your car alone, and wait 2 years till you graduate. Trust me on this one... the last thing you want to do is break something trying to go faster. I just graduated in December.... when you have money your options will look much brighter.

I have never owned one....just old stuff...
And a 23* headed LT will never be as good as an LS so you need to realize that you have a turd.
BTW I have an LT in my car.....If I had the money I would swap in a nasty LS motor no questions asked

I'm kind of in the same boat- just finishing up college and trying to do an lt1 swap into my 95. It's expensive and is breaking me a little, but who knows, I might be married to some nagging wife in two years who won't let me do sh**. So I said f*** it, I'm doing it right now while I at least have my freedom to make bad financial decisions with out having to hear about LOL. In a way I am kidding but on the other hand it's the truth. I'm staying within my means, although it's the border of my means, and that is what I suggest you should do. Good luck.
thanks for the responses guys. ive been dying to build a motor for years, i just dont wanna have it blow up half way to school. ive still got a little time to make a decision but hoepfully by summer ill have somethin worked out.
If this car is your DD and you want to keep it reliable, then I would just leave it alone and save your money. Wait till you get out of school, then by yourself a second car to put around town, and do whatever you want then to your f-body.
