Need Serious Help

I have owned a 95 lt1 camaro for the past three years, and its been nothing but a thorn in my side. Dont get me wrong, i love my car, but i need some serious help. After posting my problem in another forum, i changed my optispark, but it still doesnt run right. SO heres, the deal, let me know if you can help. My camaro starts and runs fine for approx 15-20 mins, then shuts right down and wont turn over for about an hour, then it turns and does the same thing. Someone help me please

Re: Need Serious Help

i guess i dont know how to describe it. It sounds like its about to start, but it never does. today after i put the opti in i was able to start it and she ran for at least 20 min, then just shut right off as if i had turned to key off. then i couldnt start her for hours. she just keeps cranking and cranking, and it never fully fires

Re: Need Serious Help

People with the same problem fixed it by replacing the Ignition Control Module(ICM). Its that small, black, square sensor mounted right beside the coil. The theory is that it gets hot after so long and quits working which shuts off your spark. What you need to do is run the car till it quits and then check to see if any spark is coming out of the coil... that will narrow it down to the coil or the ICM.

When it dies then check for spark and I guess while youre at it stick your nose around the TB to make certain its getting fuel too.

Exactly right. You might wanna get some help but what you do is pull off the wire leading from the coil to the opti. With the coil end still plugged to the coil, you lay the other side down on the valve cover or something that will conduct a spark and see if you get a spark while cranking.

Re: Need Serious Help

I have no spark wehn i hold it near the valve cover. What exactly does that mean? bad ICM? im still kicking around the idea of a bad MAF...any insight in that?

Re: Need Serious Help

If you tested it correctly then the problem is coil or ICM related.

Re: Need Serious Help

I had an ICM go out in just a few months time. If you replace it put some washers behind the bracket, it will help keep it cooler.

Re: Need Serious Help

she lives again!!!! How many mechanics and "experts" that i went to were wrong??? All of them. Thank you guys so much for helping me. I had replaced the ICM like i said a while back, so i ruled that out, but after i did that this afternoon, she ran like a champ. Its good to be back. Thanks again for all the help, you people are great! (Just had a drink to celebrate!!! )
