Need to Run 11.5x by July 1st!
Ok hears the story A buddy a work (ford dealership
) has a 1986 Mercury Capri. Everyone there thinks this car is frigin holy. It has a 347 Ford crate engine that puts out around 450Hp and with exhaust ect. It makes 495Hp on the dyno. The car is a wannabe 2000Gt with leather interior ect. The year before it ran 12.1 @ 108mph at the KOTHC. I would love nothing more that to beat this car at the king of the hill challenege this July. My sig is everything I got so far, I was thinking weight reduction first
By the way I have not yet done a 1/4 with my current setup so i dont know how close to my goal I am right now. I do not want to use NOS, Turbo Or supercharger as my catergory as well as his is naturally asspirated.

Try a good set of heads to match that CC306, a 12 bolt rear with 3.73's or 4.10s, and a bigger stall with a set of ET Streets. That should put you right around where you wanna be. Also, are you sure his Capri is dynoing those numbers or is that at the flywheel?? Someone help me here as I am not quite sure, but if a Capri had 500 at the wheels, it should be below 12.1, or possibly 11.1 for that matter, they arent heavy cars.

I'd start off by moving up the stall to around 3600 and getting some sticky tires.
Then I'd probably start dropping weight like BMR K-member, manual rack, !AC, etc.... Not sure where that would put you.
I'd also make sure the car is in good tune first by checking the fuel filter, plugs, wires, etc....

495 hp out of a 347 crate engine.... im not calling bs but that is VERY hard to reach with that crate motor with the heads it comes with. Have you seen dyno sheets of the run? have you seen it run at the track? unless he changed the heads/cam with that crate motor he is full of ****

Also you said that guy ran a low 12 @ 108 mph . If he only traped 108 mph he does not have anywhere near 498 or 450 hp. All he has is a holeshot

Sounds like this guy is figuring horsepower using Rice Mathmatics. Hmmm I got this crate motor that puts out 450....it said on my air filter box that thats giving me 10 extra horsepower....that exhaust is advertised to give me another 15 horsepower......still not even accounting for drivetrain loss either
I'm not sayin this guys car aint fast because with that motor that thing has to move a little, but 495 with no power adder....unlikely unless he replaced a few minor parts like heads and cam. I'm not sure about the ET, but 108 is pretty low for a 12.1 car.
