Need to pull oil pan.. is there anything i'm missing?

I need to pull the oil pan to get to my oil pump. During a hard stop my oil pressure drops to 0 and i believe that it is because the oil pump pickup has fallen off the pump. I figure i'll just change the pump while i'm there. I wanted to know is there anything i'm missing as i wanted to order these parts from the dealer tomorrow. If anyone has GM part numbers that would help but i guess i'll figure that out with the dealer if anything.

Oil pump
Oil pump pick-up
Oil pan gasket
Timing Chain cover gasket

any other gaskets or items that i will need from the dealer to complete this or does this sound right?

Thanks!

A dirty little secret is that not all LT1s can get the oil pan off with the engine still in. Good nes for you is that I think it's more likely with an A4, maybe even "for sure" with an A4. But with an M6, there is no guarantee. Before I pulled my engine, I jacked the engine hard enough for the bellhousing to dent the drivetrain tunnel on my Z28. The oil pan still was a no go.

Can anybody confim an A4 lets you get the oilpan off with the engine in the car 100% of the time?

You'll need a new waterpump seal after you remove the timing chain cover. The new seal should be installed after the timing chain cover is installed as you'll need to insure the inside lip of the seal doesn't fold over during installation (very common problem)! Find a smooth plastic pen cap or a socket that's the same diameter as the water pump drive gear, lube it with oil and slide the seal in plance an tap it down with a socket.

I'd also recommend the Felpro oil pan gasket over the stock GM, the stock is good but the Felpro has better "daming" and spacers molded in so you can't crush the gasket by over tightening the mounting bolts.

I did it with an A4...
you may need an opti drive seal of your leaking oil from behind the opti. If you are taking the timing cover off you will need a water pump drive seal and a balancer hub seal. and paterpump gaskets. dont see why you are doing all of this to get the pan off though...

Also be sure to remove the oil level sensor from the side of the oil pan prior to trying to drop the oil pan. There's a paper gasket associated with the oil level sensor, get one of those too.

I thought i read that the timing chain cover needs to be loosened to get the oil pan off and i figured if i loosen it i should change the gasket. I'm not 100% sure where the oil is leaking from. Are there any common leaks that the LT1 has? Could it just be possibly leaking from the oil pan gasket. What i'm gonna do tomorrow morning is wipe everything down clean and see if i can figure out where its leaking from. I just know i have an oil stain in my garage and if i look under the whole oil pan has oil on it and it looks to be coming from the front because i see oil drops hanging ready to fall.

Another question. The timing chain cover can stay on while i take the opti off and put a new seal there if that's the problem?

yeas, you can change both the waterpump drive seal and the opti drive seal with the timing cover on. get instructions on installing the water pump seal before attemping it if you are replacing it. it is easy to tear.

Listen to the man. Take the sensor out first, or you will be buying a new one. I broke mine. Doh!

A few points:
1] You have it backwards.. you have to drop the front of the oil pan to remove the timing cover[not remove the TC to drop the pan]
2] The crank 'throws' have to be in a certain position to get oil pan off on the car [I can't recall WHAT position.. ]
3] The water pump seal you can buff up the driveshaft and use that for an 'install tool' I'd get 2 seals in case you ruin one..
The 3 TC seals can be done w/o remiving it..
4] GM p/n's for the gaskets and seals:
Front Crankshaft Seal 10128316
Timing Cover Opti Seal 93-4 10128317 [95-7 is 12552428]
Water Pump Drive Shaft Seal in TC 10217886
Water Pump Gasket [2 needed] 10128343
Water Pump Drive Shaft Orings [2] 12553792
Timing Cover Gasket 10128293
Opti Drive Shaft Oring [late] 10474278
Low Oil Level Sensor Gasket 10151633

I've also used the dye you add to the oil and a black light to hunt down the source of your leak. Changing seals that aren't the culprit can lead to new leaks!
