Exclamation Need Opinions on Oil Cooler...

I was wondering what everyones opinion is because I am leaking a lot of oil from the oil cooler and the mechanic said it was the seal :
SHOULD I
-1- Remove it myself and delete it?
-2- Have the mechanic remove it?
and if I do have it removed can I still use the HP 2002 from KN oil filter?
or
-3- Should I have the oil cooler gasket replaced?
.
If I do end up removing the oil cooler myself is there a thread or book that will show me step by step? I am one of those guys that knows just the bare
basics of mechanics....
THANkS A LOT IN ADVANCE!

I'd get rid of it. Several have deleted it. Altjar is one, I believe.

Re: Need Opinions on Oil Cooler...

You need to pull off the cooler and splice together the coolant lines.

The filter i recommend is the larger almost 1 qt filter, not sure the number for the KN. Its application is listed as GM 2500 trucks (most years, do 1995. They all run the same filter). I run the Napa Gold filter (made by Wix). Its part number 1060.

you should also see a decent gain in oil pressure by removing the cooler.

Thanks A lot for the reply...
So those (2) alluminum lines that connect to the black block (which i believe is the oil filter) have to some how get hooked up together right?
What did you use?

Re: Need Opinions on Oil Cooler...

you have one cooler line going from the lines to the right bottom of the radiator, the other goes up to the water pump. unbolt the cooler and remove it. get a oil cooler bypass hose which gets put on the water pump elbow then runs to the spot i told you for the radiator.

So when the oil cooler is removed both of the lines will still be intact to the
oil cooler and i must disconnect the line at the radiator and the water pump elbow and use that oil cooler bypass hose and hook it up to the radiator and
the other end to the water pump...
sorry for making it so complicated...I dont know much about working with
cars so sorry for the slow understanding...
.
This bypass valve, is it sold at an autozone? Is it a universal one size fits
all?
Should i expect all my oil to leak out when replacing this or just whats in the
oil cooler and filter...

Re: Need Opinions on Oil Cooler...

your feedback is correct- its called a oil cooler bypass hose- forget the part number. autozone should have it, explain it to them. only thing that will leak out is antifreeze- no oil.... remember when you pull that hose of the radiator and water pump you will have fluid everywhere. best to drain the whole system and add new stuff to the system. email me of you have any other questions.
