Need opinions

I have a 383 stroker that i am changing the pistons and installing a new cam. I have narrowed down my cam selection to a couple of different ones

1. Lunati 50156 - 232/242 @ 50 - lift- .544/.560 w/1.6 - RPM-2000-6500
2. CC 07-467-8 - 230/236 @ 50 - lift- .576/.570 w/1.6 - RPM-2000-6000
3. CC 07-503-8 - 224/230 @ 50 - lift- .537/.544 w/1.6 - RPM-1800-5800

I am going to have a SCR of aprox 11.3:1
I was told by a very respected board member to look for a cam in the 230-235 range to get my DCR in the 8.5 range.

Has any one had any experience with the listed cams in a 11.3:1 383?
Any other suggestions, just post if any other info is needed.

I wouldnt go with either one of them. If it were me i would try to get my DCR as close to 9.0 as possible(depending on were you live and the gas available to you). Also I would go with a custom ground cam to match your setup. i think you'll be leaving power on the table if you go with a off the shelf grind.

If you are going for pistons then go larger with the cam and 12.5 at least with the static compression.
Get your DCR as close to 8.5/9.0 as you can.
Tell whoever ya get the pistons from how much lift, block deck height,CID. and compression height, head gasket, etc so as to get the right stuff. Don't just pick a set from Summit as they don't know WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR SET UP. Get some numbers direct from the piston manufacturer and THEN order from Summit.
Probe can set ya up with forged flat tops with .800 lift valve reliefs.

Supreme gas in my area is 91... With the first one i think my DCR will be 8.5:1....i was just talking to a representative from Lunati and he said 11.3 :1 with this cam would need a higher octane rating than normal....10.5:1 would be idea....any ideas on this? I don't know if i want to go a custom route again.... Is anyone running 11:3:1 on low pump gas(91)?

Pm me with ALL your engine spects and I will figure your DCR for you.
Plenty people running 12.5 on 92.
DCR is cam dependent and more HP

My DCR is 9.2. My static is 11.3. 91 octane is all that is available and I can run in the middle of 110 F summers here. Look at quench as a possible way to raise DCR without raising issues with predenotation.

What do you run your quench at and with what gaskets?

There is a DCR calculator online. Just google it.
