Need to move my header

I need to unbolt my header so I can push it back an inch and get at a sparkplug that needs changing. Can anyone tell me if I can do this without breaking the gasket?

You might be able to do it with out breaking the gasket but i would have a spare on hand just in case. It also depends on the type of gaskets you are running. I would make sure i had a spare gasket or one of your local parts stores does before you start, just incase.

What kind of headders do you have. LT's or shorties. If you have LT's I wouldn't see any reason why you have to move the headder to get to the plugs. Shorties is a different thing, but they should have engineered them so that some kind of wrench would get to it. I would personally take a trip to sears and see if some kind of offset wrench would help.

Thanks for the replies.

I have shorties, they are so tight I cant get the socket in between. I'm going to visit sears to see what they have that might help first.

If you aren't on a time schedule I would recommned ordering SLP's spark plug socket. Its cut down and will fit just about anywhere. I used it when I changed my spark plugs and it was cake.

Re: Need to move my header

I'm ordering it right now man, every little bit helps in this situation. I did manage to get the plug off using my regular socket the way the SLP socket is supposed to be used (Thanks ShelbyZ28.) So I'm in my garage turning this thing one millimeter at a time cause thats all I had room for, there's 2 hours I'll never get back; I was sore that night. I only disconnected some hose and aluminum pipe attached to the header.
