Need immediate help... Car wont start.. wont even try and turn over

I noticed before i went to the gas station it wouldnt turn over.... then i tried again and she cranked over... but at the gas station it wouldnt start again..
Tried jumping it.. Have normal battery power
It wont make any clicking noises... its like im not even turning the ignition..
I was able start the car by pushing it and popping the clutch.

I just got done changing the starter.... Nothing... Same thing wont even try and start...
I hear the fuel pump priming itself too...
My friend thought he smelt something electical thats burnt...
Maybe i have a loose ground????

I need help.. I dont have time to fix the car i have a calculus test to study for and a car that needs to be running to get me there.

I ran into the same problem your describing. Battery had plenty of juice and the fuel pump was engaging, it ended being a neutral safety switch that was bad. I just replaced that and all worked well. This is only a suggestion what your problem might be, but here is a bump for ya . Hope this helps.

The clutch start switch is on the pedal linkage under the dash and has a plug with a brown and a yellow wire in it. Unplug it and plug a paper clip into the connector to connect the brown and yellow wires. This will bypass the switch for testing purposes. If that does not help, the switch is not your problem.

If it starts by push starting it, then it shouldn't be a VATS issue.
Sounds like the clutch neutral safety switch.
This problem happened on 2 of my car, 86 Trans Am and 96 Camaro. I was lazy and just wired the 2 wires together.

Maybe a fuseable link to the starter maybe?

Vats... vehicle anti theft system??? im guessing...

I took off the underside dash below the steering column... there are a lot of wires down there...

Im going down there again to see if i can find it.. I think i saw it but the wire looked kinda purple... i dont have a good flashlight though.. I'll check again..

Thanks again... shoebox, Zepher and everyone else... Man i hope thats the problem..

Could be something wrong with the ignition switch, BCM or the theft deterrent relay. You are going to need some wiring diagrams and electrical troubleshooting skills to track it down.

If you can, you should try to prove that 12v is getting to the purple wire on the starter when the key is turned to START. If not, then you will need to track it back from there.

While you are under the dash, you might try making sure you have a good connection on the ignition switch.

Switch takes about a couple of hours.
It costs about $75 for the switch and $25 or so for each of the keys.

The times and prices are for a 92 Firebird, might be more or less for your 4th gen.

The switch and the key cylinder are two different things.

Ok, I figured the 3rd gen would be different. My friend that changed his lock cylinder a few weeks ago on his 92 since the wires for the VATS were broken said that the column you posted look way different.

Is there a seperate switch on our 82-92 cars as well?
