Need help with valve lash adjustment

I recently ported my heads and put a CC 306 CAM in my car as well as headers Crane 1.6 self aligning RR's etc.... When adjusting the lash, I can get the driver side sounded nice, but on the passanger side, one of the rockers will still tick. The only way to get it to stop is to tighten it too much and that causes the car to idle VERY badly and eventually die. I have a video clip of the sound while driving away.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appriciated! Thanks!

I've done that, and it works great except one rocker still ticks like hell! but if I tighten it so it doesn't tick..... the engine will die.

Perhaps you have a bad lifter.

Tried that.... I put my stock lifters back in, and still did it. The pushrods are new, the springs are ok, the valves are ok, the CAM is brand spank'in new. I bought used RR's, but they don't seem to have any issues that I can tell.

I hope you loosed the rocker nut off again cause that's alot of pressure on the new cam.....try swaping the noisey rocker with another one...maybe the rockers bad? is it noisey right away after you adjust it or does it take a minute? maybe the adjusting nut is not staying tight? ive seen that before on my friends '89 iroc...

Just throwing out an idea here. Maybe the lifter cylinder is scored and is causing the lifter to stick. . Pull it out and feel if its smooth

If you can pinpoint which rocker it is, try moving it to a different location and see if it still does it.

It ended up being an exhast leak. A buddy came over who has the same headers as me, and he was like, dude, my car did that with those headers.... it was an on-going battle with them. (I had to dremel the hell out of them in order to get them to fit) So I"m guessing that's part of it. I'm gonna go pick up some new gaskets this weekend and try to find some sort of silicone substance that I can use on them to maybe seal it a little better. Any ideas of what works well?

Dont use the silicone on the header gaskets ......it will kill the O2s.

How will it kill the O2's?

As long as you keep the silicone off the sensor it shouldn't effect it.... or maybe I missed something?

Ultra Copper from Permatex works real well on header gaskets. You need to check the flange flatness with a straight-edge. May have some warpage. You can get a slightly warped header to seal... just use the spongiest (thickest) gaskets you can find (cheap Mr Gaskets work nice) soak them in water so they swell a bit, let em dry and then install using Ultra Copper to help with the seal. I've used this approach a few times and it works.
If they're reasonably flat, then use a composite type gasket like Fel Pro etc..
