Need help PLEASE!!!! back firing flames readjust valves???

Hey guys, I just got through with my engine build and when I try to start it, it shoots a flame out the headers (open jet-hot long tubes) I adjusted the rockers like it says to on shoebox's website. I was wondering if it is possible that I adjusted them wrong. For instance..............I had #1 piston TDC and adjusted the one I could on the intake. Then I turned the crank over 1 full turn and adjusted the others. Could I have had the #1 piston on the wrong stroke?? Would that make it shoot flames out the header? I have to blow the fire out that is in the header.......I think it's building up gasoline in the header and that's where the fire is coming from. It is also having LOUD back fires. I also had the intake elbow off and it shot a flame out from there to. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can have piston 1 on the wrong stroke. For reference, if the timing dots are together you will be at real TDC piston #6. Do one full revolution, and should be at real TDC piston #1.
