Angry Need Help Please :'(

Alright, my wife has a 00 grand prix, she went to turn the windshield wipers on this morning, and the passenger side works fine, but the driver side moves, but not very far, and the passenger side keeps hitting it. I was trying to check it out, but did not see anything broke, but notice that the passenger side is tight and does not move back in forth across the window like it should be, but the driver side wiper moves across the window with out turning it on, what could be wrong with the wiper???? please help.

Re: Need Help Please :'(

sounds like she turned them on with ice on the windshield and striped the splines on the shaft(hopefully) pull the drivers wiper arm off, clean all the metal shavings out of the splines in the arm and shaft, then reinstall, it should work for a while longer, but avoid turning them on with ice on the windshield, the correct fix is to replace the entire wiper linkage(might be termed the wiper "module" by the dealer)

Re: Need Help Please :'(

You'll just need a new wiper arm if it won't tighten up. They are tapered so you should be fine. Don't overtighten it though or you may crack the arm.

Re: Need Help Please :'(

Check with a Pontiac Dealership. My 97 was doing strange things with a wipers a couple of years ago and then I found out there was a recall on part of the wiper drive mechanism. I can't remember exactly what the recall was, but it's free to ask the dealership. Good Luck.

Re: Need Help Please :'(

My '90 dodge did the same thing. Only some of the splines on the arm were stripped and the problem turned out to be a loose nut holding the wiper arm onto the rest of the wiper assembly. Not sure if the Prix is like that or not?
