Well with shorty headers you won't see a crazy gain up top compared to if you had LT's. But if I had to do it again I wouldn't get the LT4 HotCam (I bought it because it was easily available). I wouldn't get the cc305 either. I would get something like a cc306 on stock heads for now, and later get the stock heads ported real nice. If you want not alot of cam surge and more streetability get something like a 228/228 .525/.525 111-112LSA.

I don't know its just my idea of more streetable than a cc306. Just don't mess around with getting a cam to small, not worth the pain of putting it in. Get a good valve spring so if you ever do upgrade to a cc306 since you will have knowledge now it will just be a cam swap.

you are going to have to reprogram the computor no matter what cam you put in. If you have to pass emissions the biggest cam that you cam get is the cc305. There is a huge debate about the cc305 vs. lt4 hotcam. After sifting through massive amounts of info, it seems like the cc305 will put out a little more power that the hotcam (some will disaggree) but the hotcam sounds a little more lopey. Hope this helps.

If you're looking for a low budget swap, nothing beats the LT4 Hotcam kit.... or even comes close to it truthfully.

Also, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for a do-it-yourselfer a cam swap is minimally a 2-day job from what I've seen.... a shop could probably do it in 8-10 hours of solid work.

Did you want to pass smog? There are several paths you can go through. Are you going to port and polish your heads?

If you have trouble reading the above data, just select it...

copy it, and paste it up in Excel... it will straighten out all of the columns

There are so many cams out there for the LT1. Every car will perform differently with each cam, and people also have certain biases towards some cams. If you really want to research some cams, do a search. There have been many debates on the Cc305 vs. Hot Cam and others. If you do a search for "cams" you will fiond many posts about many different types of cam.

I won't give you a reason why or anything but I would a Comp Cams XE 230/236 on 112lsa . Nice and lopey, yet streetable in everyway (from what I'm told with a 6 speed). It won't cause your car to stall in traffic and cam surge should be minimal. Also, when you slap some P & P heads on your car this cam should work great. Its the cam I'm going with.

If you want a nice cam that will pass the sniffer, go with LT4 Hotcam Kit. No hesitation in throttle responce, lopey, you can use stock heads for now if your on a budget. We just finished insalling one in my friends car today. I was impressed with the results from considering there was no porting and no tuning done yet.

umm.... I must ask what are you thinking. Why would yo get the 306? With the amount of mods that DMX has, the cc306 would be incredibly too big. The 306 has no low end power and you have to spin the rpm's wayyy to high on a essentially stock engine. I have had many people tell me that they had the 306 installed on their heavily modded cars and they regretted ever putting it in. For someone that is just starting out, the hotcam or the c305 is probably going to be the most that he will want to go. If you go to the comp cam web site and look at their 306 cam, it essentially says that it sucks on the street. Don't go cc306, it won't pass the sniffer and you will be going way over your head. One more suggestion, you buddy that is going to be "helping" you might also have some knowledge on the subject. Hope the best, think strongly before you the the 306 cam.

To some the 306 is a fair cam. To others like you, its not what they want. Nothing wrong with that. I just wish I would have gotten that cam or something very similar, and then got head work later.

go to combonationmotorsports.com and there number is there. They offer the 306 as well, but i think the particular cam is a little big for you. (IMO)
