Need help with lights ASAP

My courtesy lights won't turn off no unless I disconnect the battery or pull out the 20 amp fuse. They are supposed to turn on every time I open the door and will dim gradually when I close the door. The on/off switch on the rear view mirror doesn't work anymore - the lights will always stay on.

Another thing is that when I pull out the 20 amp lights fuse, my alarm won't work. With the fuse on, the alarm will work but it won't shut off the inside lights.

I don't understand how it still gets power eventhough I turn off the switch. How should I go about checking this?

Maybe a bad door jamb switch.

It is merely a contact switch. You can try playing with it by flicking the button or remove it to check it out. There is a nut on the outside that secures it, but to get to the wiring you will have to remove the kick panel to get to the back.

I figured out that I can direct connect the two wires of the door jamb switch and see if the lights go off.

If they still don't go off, what might be the next thing to check? Thanks for the replies shoebox.

Does anyone know where the relay that controls the lights are? When we close the door, the lights don't instantly go off..it takes some time for it to slowly dim out. There must be something that controls this. I checked the door jamb switch and its fine.

I thought you said the lights would not go off? Now they dim out like they are supposed to? The lights are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM).

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding..my lights still won't go off. I meant that it's supposed to dim out. Thanks for pointing out the BCM. Where can I get one, how much does it cost and where is it approximately located? My mechanic said something about being near the headlight switch assembly. I appreciate your help.

The BCM is on the RH side, under the dash, attached to the HVAC ducting. If you look on my Tech Page, there are some instructions on retrieving trouble codes from the BCM to see if it might be ill.
