it's also got 117,000miles. I would think though like if it was the tranny or somethin it would rev just not move. But he says it doesn't even rev now keep in mind I haven't checked out the car yet and he know less about cars than most girls do

that was going to be the first thing I checked. On my old car nissan 300zx turbo sweet little car by the way. A screw came loose and bam my throttle went to WOT not good on a manual. Or when it's 5degrees out and snowin but it seems like my friend has the exact opposite of a problem

Wow, enunciation helps alot.

1. Is the gas pedal stuck to the floor? As though there is nothing connected to it? If so, check the connection at the throttle body, and the cable itself.

2. I'm gonna take a HUGE stab in the dark here, but fuel pressure could be low (like a bad pump) and it will start but not rev. Like I said it's a long shot.

Check option 1 and let us know.

I'm thinking clogged fuel filter myself. With 117K on the clock, and your friend knowing less about cars than most women, I'm betting it's still got the factory filter still in place.

Good point, although it runs with the same statement about fuel pressure.

could this also be a bad throttle position sensor? Just curious, maybe some of the gurus can chime in here

No, it would'nt be the TPS. TPS is just to tell the computer the angle of the throttle blade.

if it is the throttle cable, you should be able to tell the instant you touch the gas pedal. It will have no resistance to it at all, it will just fall straight to the floor. I cant think of anything else that would cause it to idle perfectly fine, and not rev AT ALL. Start by checking the obvious. ie throttle cable.
