need help building a 355
need help building a 355
ok im looking into buying a stock 350 block (used) for roughly 100-150 bucks!
wondering how much would a .030 bore (to a 355) cost.
also wanting forgred pistons and rods.
will use a stock LT1 crank.
basically a full rotating assembly.
I have 3k to spend and looking for the cheapest rebuild possible..
also going to be spraying 150-175 shot (wet)

If you're looking for cheap and forged, get the summit forged rebuilt kit. That will get you forged pistons, gasket set, bearings, an oil pump and a few other odds and ends. You can use the Eagle I-beam rods or spend a little extra and get the H-beams, just whatever you want.
I got Mahle pistons, Eagle H-beams, Eagle forged crank, Clevite H bearings, splayed 4 bolt main conversion, ARP headstuds, Fel Pro headgaskets, Comp custom cam, Beehive springs, Comp R lifters, .030" overbore, block decking, head milling, 3 angle valve job and cleaning of the block/heads for right at $4,000, so I feel sure you can do it within your budget.
Edit: since you'll be buying a bare block probably, if you end up needing a crank you can get a new Eagle cast one for less than $200 if I remember correctly....

Re: need help building a 355
My Canton oil pan cost around $350, also need to budget some for the pump and pickup. I think the custom grind cam cost me $300. You can get some used heads for $150 I would think, probably even cheaper if you can find some bare ones that some guy has had sitting around for a while. If you wanted to use stock valves, I'm sure you could find someone who would give theirs away if you looked hard enough. Then just get your machine shop to mill them flat, do a 3 angle valve job and set them up for you. Maybe try your hand at some home porting too.....
