Need help, 96SS cruise control stuck WOT!!!
Car: My 1996 SS, 54kmi
While traveling down I35, I had the cruise control accelerate, I turned off cruise and braked (no help, still WOT) I pressed in the clutch, immediate redline, turn off engine, turn back on redline, slide gracefully into the guard rail (did not notice steering wheel locked and it was too late to react), by the time I got the key unlocked it was too late, SCRRRAPPPEEE.
I got out (after many f-bombs) and noticed the throttle was open, I pulled it down and then it was not hanging open.
I saw a similar thread, but all stated the cable was probably stuck, but
in my case the car definitely accelerated (cruise was on at about 65, then it accelerated to about 80 and WOT!!!!). If the cable stuck, then I would expect the MPH would not accelerate, it surely did.
I disconnected the cruise control cable and drove home.
Now I know 3 things:
1. What it feels like to have 320hp without control (scary with my 2 girls in the car, nice fathers day!).
2. What it sounds like to stop a card with a guard rail, Nascar style (I am such dumb ***, please do not agree too much; ego already sufficiently deflated)
3. How robust the passenger side of my SS WAS (no damaged as much as I thought it would be). Sorry no photos, I did left my photos at work.
Thanks in advance for any help as to what I should do to fix.
And any details on what caused it would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, less than 24 hours later the car is in the shop.
