need good crank...scat ok

im going to hopefully hit 430 rwhp. i may wanto spray a 200 shot later later. then again i may not, but i dont want to tear it back down if i decide to. the rods are lunati and the pistions are ross. but i need to know if the scat forged crank will hold, its going to be a 355 i cant seem to find a place to buy cola cranks anymore.

any help or opinions are welcomed

No idea, try calling cnc-motorsports(.com). They have the stats for their items they carry and they carry scat 4340 forged cranks. They helped me decide on the rods I wanted.

ive heard way to many horror stories with scat cranks but some people stand by them. the majority of them come so far out of balance that it would cost a small fortune in heavy metal to correct. im a good believer in the eagle stuff especially for the price and they are pretty stout pieces.

Any reason for that? The majority of people only go to a 355 to still use the stock crank. If you're buying a whole new rotating assembly, then getting a few more cubic inches is well worth it.

i disagree. you have to look at the whole picture. a set of stock ported heads will not support a 383 ,(the way it should run anyway) do a search and look at the rwhp betwwen a 383 and a 355. a the 383 are making about 10 more hp (using stock ported heads) thats it. the cost isnt much for a 383. but sense joe overton told me this motor should make 450 rwhp, i think ill go 355.

but i was going to use a stock crank a nd i have one. but i may spray it later and to be totaly honest with you, i probably wont. but if i decide to, i want to be able to. i may only be a 150 shot but who knows

and cmotorsports no longer sell scat, but they do sell eagle.

I have to disagree tho, Alot of people really overlook the potential of LT1 castings. If they are worked over correctly and matched to the correct valvetrain then they are capable of producing very good numbers. Ive been talking alot with Bret Baur on my set up that Im putting together this summer 383, LE3 LT1 castings, 12:1 compression, Single Plane intake, custom HR grind cam and carb, and he feels that my goal of 500 rwhp is well attainable. with a good tune.

Hmm, I've heard and experienced pretty much the opposite.

IMO, Scat is the best of the import stuff.

Back to cranks for this build. I'd step away from the 1053, only settling for a 4340 forging. When you consider the cost, there's just no reason not to go with the stronger crank.

On that matter, Scat makes everything from inexpensive 4340 forgings to lightweight/contoured/slicked-out billet cranks.

HTH (Hank the Crank... been around since dirt) also makes a very nice forging for an equally nice price. Have used HTH stuff in a number of builds.

Re: need good crank...scat ok

im workin on rebuilding my lt-1 into a 355 and im definately going with scats stock replacement crank and then forged rods and pistons seein there replacement cranks are good for 500hp which isnt bad seeing i dont plan i getting any more power then that anyway maybe some forced induction and thats about as far as i plan on going
