Need to Empty gas tank...

Problem,

I just got done redoing the LT1 on my '96 SS and the car has 3/4 of a tank of gas. The car has been sitting for almost two years, I refuse to stick two year old gas through my brand new motor.

I can't get a siphon hose down through the filler neck, can I pull the filter and siphon through the fuel pump?

The motor is ready to fire except for this small issue.

Any better ideas?

Disconnect the pipe at the fuel filter and jumper 12v to the fuel pump prime wire under the hood by the computer. Just make sure you monitor it so that you stop the pump just when no more gas is coming out. You don't want to burn up the pump.

Re: Need to Empty gas tank...

I thought about that, my only concern was the amount and pressure of the gas coming out with the fuel pump pumping.

But, if shoebox says do this then thats what I will do.

BTW, your (shoeboxes) site was the most incredible resource during the reinstallation of this motor. The pictures, references, harness pics, all of it actually, was the most incredible help I could have imagined.

I'm sure you have heard this before but, a huge thanks for the site Shoebox.

We used a similar method to empty the tank of a "98 Suburban. Long story short the tank was filled up at the gas station and driven for 150 miles............with diesel.

Slip a long piece of rubber hose on the end of the pipe. You will be able to direct the gas a little better. Wear eye protection if needed and by all means no sparks or flames!
