Need Cat Recommendation

I need 1 new cat on my 97. I have BBK shorties and the stock y pipe with 2 cats. The cat on the passenger side is bad and I need to replace it. My question is if I should replace the 1 bad cat, gut both cats, or just buy a new y pipe with one cat. I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Also if you have a good place to get these items I would appreciate if you would list them.

Re: Need Cat Recommendation

i would go with a magnaflow cat for around 200$ a piece... i know this seems steep but think of it this way... you can buy a 50$ 3 " cat and last you a year or you can buy a 200$ magnaflow #' cat that wont go bad ... by itself... just my .02 .. theres a reason the 200$ cat is more expensive it lasts. or you can do the quick fix and gut the cats.. but then you take the legality into your hands and by gutting your cat you gain 2-4 hp which in my opnion is not worth the polution it puts out.

gut it aslong as you dont live in a state that requires emission inspections. It might sound a little bit raspy, just make sure you like the sound first cause some people dont.

Re: Need Cat Recommendation

Personally I'd replace it with the same model as on the other side. Just the thought of different backpressures on each side would bother me. But that's probably a bit **** to most folks.
