need to beat LS1
need to beat LS1
what do i need to beat an LS1. as my car sits i have: ZR1 wheels with 275/40/17 MX's, magnaflow exhaust, 3 in off road pipe on stock y-pipe, cold air intake, short throw shifter, coolant bypass and de-screened MAF, and 3.73's. also wondering what most stock LT1 SS's run in the 1/4 mile, i raced a 6-speed one many times over the last few weeks and beat him from a stop and a roll every time. (about 15 times). what kind of rwhp and crank hp do you guys think i am putting out. the car has no ecu tuning, the speedometer is still off from the last owner who installed the gears. how big of a shot (nitrious) can i run on stock fuel with my mods...without breaking anything. the car has 70k miles on it and has the infamous intake manifold gasket leak.(can i spray with it leaking?) is there anything to be gained from taking off the AIR pump and EGR? thats alot of questions, thanks for any answers.

ps: any suggestions on what mods to get to run 12's?

thanks guys, anyone know anything about my other questions? a friend of mine is getting an LS1 just to beat me, and i want to make him look like an ***. im thinking about getting a y-pipe with some money i recieved for christmas. i dont want to deal with putting headers on and i plan on getting nitrious sometime anyways, or possibly a turbo. i just want some more HP for cheap, plus i have an exhaust leak from where i did the off road pipe and i could redo it all with a new y-pipe.
thanks
thanks
I have a 96 TA with the mods in the sig. I am currently installing rksport midlength headers and should be ready to role this weekend. My brother has a 02 Z28 A4 with 2.73's with just free mods cutout and airlid. Last time we went to the strip I ran a 13.6@105.2 with a 2.18 60' (traction limited). He ran a 13.11@106.8 with a 2.03 60' (not traction limited)and easily stomped my LT1 every time we raced. Stock he ran a 13.5. From anything above a 30 role we are about even (he gets about 1 car from 30-110). Although when he was stock I could pull on him from a role. I would say you need a few more mods to beat one. But I don't think one would put your car to shame. I'll let you know how my car does against his this weekend

LT's, good catbak, CAI, 52mm bored stock TB with airfoil, pcmforless tuning, and maybe free mods, and you should be able to beat an A4 LS1. An M6 LS1 still might reel you in the 1/4, for sure anything beyond a 1/4.

Y pipe wont do you any good without freeing up the exhuast before it. Headers are one of the most important first steps. They arent that bad to put on, what is 1 or 2 days of work drinkin some beers with some buddies anyway, compared to running better times from then on. Plus they can be bought for a fair price new or picked up used and sold for a decent price if you change to a different setup later.
Besides with spray it would help to have the headers. As for a turbo, thats not going to be 'HP for cheap' anyway, and is way more of a project then you want to look at if you dont even want to put on headers
Most stock LS1s are mid 13, maybe low 13 in some cases. Its not a big goal to reach to run with them stock. bolt ons should do if thats all you need now. some roller rockers, a better cam, and or some n20 would handle even more of them if need be. But seal up that intake leak you mention, and dont spray over 125-150 on the hyperucraptics, and make sure youre getting fuel

Get some headers on that car and you should be okay. Either some LT's or some nice mids. With headers and from a stop i think i will be a close race. Get some 1.6rr's and you should be able to take him imo, as long as both drivers are equal. But that is as long as he is stock. Forget the bigger or bored TB and airfoil. You don't need the TB untill you up there in the hp. The airfoil is okay as long as you can get it for cheap but its not really a worthwhile mod. With nitrous you can definatly take him. You should be fine with a 100shot but i would get that intake manifold leak taken care of first. You don't want it leaking onto the clutch.
With some 1.6 or 1.7rr's and some good headers you should be able to get into the high 12's as long as your car is running good and you can get some good 60's.

where is the cheapest place to get headers from? and how much is a whole rocker set for 1.6 rr and springs. what kind of instal am i looking at for those? i have alot of technical knowledge, but not alot of OHV experience, mostly DOHC. i want 12's all motor, then its F/I time.
