According to the "How to Rebuild Small Block Chevy LT1/LT4 Engines" book it's 54.4cc...but I know it's always been up in the air for debate. <shrug>

 

Well I did a search and found that its 58cc.. this done by people who measured it themselves. But then it appears with the spark plug in place you get 54cc.

I just measured mine with stock valves and polished chambers, no milling. 55.0 cc was as close as I could measure. It might be off .5 either way, but it's pretty close.

 

What would be point of (attempting to) measure chamber volume without plugs in place?

I agree with 'Nateh'. The earlier heads will cc out at appr. 54 cc. They can/will vary several tenths among chambers, however. I consider the 58 figure bogus, until it is shown to me, person doing the procedure, has the skill and experience, to do accurately. BTW, saw it done awhile back on 'Crank and Chrome'. Execution was poor, but you could give 'em an at-a-boy for displaying the correct procedure and tools.
