Need Advice on Timing Set

I'm doing a H/C package over the winter and I'm all setup except for the timing set. I'm not sure what I need and what brand. Im going to order a meziere ewp and was wondering if i need the WHOLE GM LT4 extreme duty timing set?? and if so, should i go with this or cloyes double roller or comp??

Well, since your going with an EWP then dont even look at the LT4 set. I would go with the Cloyes DR.

no the lt4 xd is a single roller, the reason its so expensive is that it includes the gears to still drive the water pump. So if you have an ewp then problem solved.

I beleive that the timing cover needs a slight modification and deletion of the crank sensor for the double roller. Thats what I'd go with if your using an EWP though.

Yeah the cloyes requires clearancing the timing cover a little. Nothing major if you have the right tools. The cloyes set is considerably cheaper than the LT4 and easily as strong if youre worried about that. The pn for the Cloyes chain is 3145.

Re: Need Advice on Timing Set

is the comp cams set just as good as the cloyes??? the guys doing my heads keep the comp cams one on their shelf, so it would save me a lil with freight. also since i would have to modify the timing cover, should i just buy another one that doesn't need any modifications for safety purposes??? is their any timing covers out their for our cars that don't need modified for a double roller??? sorry for all the tedious questions, i just don't want to run into any bumps along the way.

I have been researching the same thing. I think you will need to modify the cover. I have not seen any that are alreay clearanced to use the EP set up.

I could be wrong, though. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Never seen the Comp set, but it has to be within the price range of the Cloyes. The Cloyes is $80 and is extremely strong. I am using one on my engine.

For modifying the timing cover, all you need is a Dremel or a grinder and about 5 minutes. No sweat.

Re: Need Advice on Timing Set

Stick with the Cloyes set. It's a true roller. The comp probably is just a double roller. If you had a part number that would help.

Mentioned before about the cam position sensors, you dont' need to even worry about that because you car is a 95 and OBD1.

Part number for the Cloyes you want is CLO-9-3145 Buy it through Summit Racing, theirs is the cheapest. www.summitracing.com

actually my car is a 97 and obdII. the part number for the comp cams is 3136 and would cost me 60 bucks. or should i just go with the cloyes.
