Need advice on guideplates....

I'm getting ready to install an 847 cam with 1.6 Pro Magnum non-self aligning rockers and most likely 1 piece pushrods. I'm going to buy the rockers from someone who also has Comp Cams raised pushrod guideplates part #4800-8. He isn't sure if these will work on an LT1. Should I buy them or should I get something else?
Thanks!

i would pass on them. i have heard that people have a hard time getting guide plates to work on LT1 heads i got the GM guide plates from thunder racing at 2.50 a piece and they work great.

COMP does not make guide plates to fit an LT1!:alert:

The LT1 has .050" wider valve spacing than a typical SBC.

I'm using GM Performance Parts (GMPP) guide plates with my COMP 1.6 "Pro Magnum" non self-aligning rockers. They're less than $20 a set.

Madwolf,

Give cmotorsports a call. I used their guideplates and hardened pushrods. They were very inexpensive and valvetrain geometry came out perfect.

The guideplates I got from CM didn't line up the pushrods as well as the GMPP (p/n 14011051) ones do.

Rob,
how many of these plates are needed? 8?
Any recommendations for locators? (i noticed you had them listed on the cam R&R page)
Thanks!

Yes, 8 are needed. I used the stock locators with no problems with the CM (612's, I think) springs.

Those are the springs I will be using as well. Do I need to order a new set of locators or can I reuse the existing ones?
(again, the reason I'm asking is because you had them listed in the "parts needed" section)
Thanks!

There was nothing wrong with my original ones, so I reused them. I guess I have them in that list so that people won't forget that they should use them.

Off-topic, but similar...it's been a while since I've seen my heads :(

Do they use push in, or screw in studs for the rockers?
