Vehicle: 385 Stroker LT1 from a 94 camaro
ISSUE: Ok I have a good leak coming from the rear of the block near the transmission. Now while the car idols. I do not see any leaks what so ever, and this is after about 5 mins of idling. Ill take the car around the corner all of a sudden my car starts leaking towards the rear of the block. NOW. I jacked the car up trying to trace the source of the leak. And here is what I noticed. On the driver side transmission case I noticed oil dripping. I pulled my car in and noticed the ground in which the leak was coming from. Based on the oil on the ground it was leaking in three spots. On both sides of the transmission and you can see where the flexplate was whipping the oil on ground therefore it was hitting my y pipe. The drip from the side of trans was also hitting my y-pipe. My buddy was intown at the time and saw it and he feels based on the Oil leaks under the trans area from the flexplate whipping oil around, He concluded that I had a rear main seal leak. Now I have been doing alot of research on C28 and 90% of the boards suggest that its un common for the rear main seal to leak. That the leak is coming from my intake. (Thats what I think) But I wanted to get a second opionion from you all about the matter. I can understand that the oil under the flexplate/front of the trans has oil and the flexplate whipping the oil around. But how do you explain the oil on the side of the driverside transmission?

Yeah Ill gone ahead and do that first. Im leaning more towards the intake leaking. I just dont feel like a rear main seal can be it. Just because of the oil sitting on the side of the transmission. So I dont see how the flywheel can splash oil in that direction the angles are off.

Try feeling the back of the intake and if you feel oil there, you found the leak. That is about the easiest way to tell. One more thing you could check is the oil pressure sender. If it is cracked, or the seal is getting old, it can leak also. Since you said driver side of the motor, you might check it first. If it breaks while you're driving it, you'll have a mess, and quite likely, a dead brand new stroker.

without seeing it, i would recommend cleaning as much of the oil as you can with brake cleaner or some other degreaser, the add oil dye to your oil. and run for a few minutes. examine the questionable areas with a black light (although you can pretty much see the dye without the light). this way you have a clear idea of where the majority of the leak is coming from. but yeah, 9 times out of ten, intake or valve cover gaskets. just hope your not number 10, the rear mains do fail from time to time. good luck.
Ok Ill check it out. TODD!! good to here from you. Glad to see your still surviving with your crazy job. As soon as I get some time im going to pull that intake off and check the sending unit in the back. Its gotta be intake related. Also I found another possible clue. There is oil sitting on my valve covers on BOTH Sides. Looks like its coming out of the bolts. I have a OVC set. Im thinking maybe the bolts are not tight enough. Or there too tight pressing the covers onto the heads like a smashing motion.

How is the commute traeting you. You are almost up to mine every day (just from a rough estimate).
Anyway, like 87slyroc said, get a couple of cans of brake cleaner or something similar and clean all the oil and dirt off so you can see where the oil is coming from. It could be coming from the valve cover bolts if you don't have any seals or O-rings under them (I use old injector O-rings). Once you have it cleaned off, you will be able to see where the oil is coming from. $6~7 worth of brake cleaner beats the heck out of the time it will take you to pull the intake.
