Exclamation nedding pistons with a 14cc dish

Ok people, before you flame me and whatever, read the whole post. For my application,
56cc heads
4.030 bore
3.75 stroke
.027 clemetic gasket
.005 in the hole deck height
It says I would need 13.8cc pistons to hit 11.25:1 compression. So, make it 14 for 11.22:1 comp. I can live with that for a shelf piston I can get now, not in 4 weeks.
So, who makes a good forged piston, 4.030 bore, 6 inch rods, for my stroker? I am needing part numbers here, so where is a good site that has many brands of which I can compare? It seems if you go to each manufacureres website you have to dig long and hard to find ONE matching piston. So, is there a site that has them ALL listed, or at least the big ones? I know 14cc dish is kind of unique, so hopefully I can find one somewhere. I want to spend around 600 max for them, hopefully including rings. If not, oh well, as I need them, so another hundo wont kill me, it will only ensure the damn thing gets put back together and I can beat on it!

Thanks for the cooperation!

Ain't gonna get there from here... why not just stick a flat top in there?

well, what do you mean? Isn't a flattop a -5cc piston? That would give me way too much compression! So no, I don't think I can get away with a flat top piston, unless there is something I am missing here?

actually now I need a 13cc dished piston. Is custom the only way? If so, where do I turn for that?

Look into probe pistons. They are reasonably priced and from what i have seen in a couple applications now a quality product. Also i would play around with gasket thickness before i go looking into custom pistons.

Re: nedding pistons with a 14cc dish

Already played with head gasket thickness. I settled on the .027 clemetic gasket, its supposed to be the best on the market, and reusable. So, that is why I settled there, and with that I have a quech of .032. That is extremely kick-@ss! So, that is how I decided that custom pistons have to happen to keep me where I want to be, as nothing else is moving. Where do I look for probe pistons?

Here is the formula to make 11.22 compression...

3.75" stroke 6.0" rod
SBC125030I16 Mahle -16cc Inverted Dome pistons
Cometic 4.040x.040" MLS gasket (like you want)
Deck your heads to 54cc - Will cost about $100 and much cheaper than custom pistons.

Re: nedding pistons with a 14cc dish

that number that you gave me, is for 6.125 long rods, I cant find where that number works for 6 inch rods. Little clarification? I would love to run mahles, so I hope I can get that piston in a 6 inch rod. Otherwise, I could get the longer rods, but would that hurt me?

ok, according to flatlander racing it is for a 6.125 rod, maybe they are wrong?

Re: nedding pistons with a 14cc dish

Mahle gave out wrong rod length info in their product flyer, flatlander did not catch the mistake. 1.125" comp height is for a 6.0" rod.

or, looking through Doug Heibert, Ross makes one, ros99526, 4.030 bore, 3.75 stroke, 6 inch rod, -15cc dish, and only 432 grams! but 629 dollars. But, I can't find mahles listed weight for that piston....

The mahles are $490-570 and weigh 405-415g Better in both cases.

Re: nedding pistons with a 14cc dish

yeah, I just found that out. Mahle says 410 grams. So, as long as I can get ahold of someone so I can verify that these are for a 6 inch rod, I will get them, as they are 90 bucks cheaper than the ross's too. But, at -15cc for the ross I could have been at 11.36:1... oh well. Mahles just look to be the better buy, as long as Ron emails me back and tells me its ok to machine my heads to 54cc chambers. He is the head expert, and my heads are sittin on his desk. LOL..

crap, also, what king of gap should be run with these for the rings? Does Mahle recomend something, or do you find a certain measurement works better than others?
