Name That Hose
Name That Hose
Okay..can take a picture later, but let me describe it for now.
96 LT1, on the passenger side right below the oil dipstick handle. There's a metal pipe right below the dipstick. What's the rubber hose right below the metal pipe. The metal pipe runs from the front of the engine towards the rear of the engine bay. The rubber hose kinda comes up from below and follows the metal piple towards the rear of the engine bay.
The reason I ask is that of the tubes from my SLP headers is sitting right on the rubber hose. I've wrapped this hose with the fire guard that came with the SLP header install kit. Looked good for a while, but today I noticed smoke coming out of the hood at a stoplight. I pulled over, and it looks like the fireguard is melting and kind of fusing with the header pipe. It even looked like the material was boiling and letting off steam.
3 questions:
1. What is the rubber hose?
2. What happens if it burns through?
3. Recommendations for some high temp heat/fire guard that I can re-wrap this hose?
There's basically no way to re-route this hose...it will touch the headers, just need to protect it.
Any feedback would help.

Re: Name That Hose
Is probably the A/C lines. The metal lines are about 4-6" long then go into rubber hoses. Had the same problem with my long tube header install on my Impala SS. The lines are flexable enough to bend out of the way of the header if you are careful went bending them(aluminum piping). Mine are now about 3-4" away from the headers. Good luck.
