Mysterious Check Engine Light!! READ...

ok well i have had my car for 3 week now and i love it, and every bit of my z28...

well the other day i noticed that after i got on it a little bit a few moments later the check englin light came on...

then quickly right back offf......... well tonight i raced 2 differnet honda hatchs with GSR swaps and pulled them by a car and a half (which i was really happy about)

but again a few moments later the light comes on and then goes back off, after like 3-4 seconds..

then coming home it pops up and the quicky back off, and didnt come back on again.....

anyone had this problem?>

There is no need to guess at what is causing the SES. A scan will tell you.

I've had problems with autozone not being able to scan my 95 ta.
The plug is for obd2, but it's obd1 so they don't have the connection to their obd1 scanner for my port.

The SES light is only on when the problem is "active". When the problem goes away, the code that turned on the SES light is stored in the PCM so it can be recalled later to try and track down the problem. If the problem does not return for a given number of "drive cycles", the code will eventually be cleared from the PCM memory.

Get it scanned. A dealer shouldn't charge you more than $60. You can get a "hardware" scanner for less than $200. You can get scan software for your laptop for free, requiring only that you buy an interface cable ($50-100). Then you will have a tool that not only recalls trouble codes, but will allow you to observe and log numerous critical engine sensors and PCM parameters.

Mine did the same thing. It was my EGR valve. The vac line came unhooked. I have heard of the EGR valves sticking becuase of excess carbon build up to. Get it scanned though and see what it says. There will be a code for the EGR even if the SES light has been off for weeks.

Re: Mysterious Check Engine Light!! READ...

well i went to autozone, and since mine is a 95, he said that he cant scan it, because they use a key to check codes for the obd1 and the scanner for the obd2... and since the engine light was not on at that time then it would not have registered the code, therefor no problem until the light comes on again....

and the light isnt on? can the deal still scan that...

Do you have an oil pressure gauge in your car?

If not, put one in. You should have one anyway, and it is POSSIBLE that's what the light is for.

No, it isn't.

The oil pressure sending unit is not driven by the PCM, and only the PCM can set SES lights.

Re: Mysterious Check Engine Light!! READ...

how do i check the codes then? if the light isnt on, i am guessing he takes this key thing and checks it?

again he told me at auto zone that he could not read a code on a obd1, if the light was not on?

and if the code is there, HOW DO I CHECK IT?

That's BS. I have access to a diagnostic scanner from my old school. I have scanned mine with no lights on, running perfect, and it shows the codes. Mine's a 95 too so i dont know why they can't scan obd1. I scan mine fine.
