is my tranny dead???

Got a 94 Z28 with an auto tranny and it won't shift into fist gear or into overdrive. It won't go into first gear even if I shift it down into it. And I thought it was just low on fluid so I added some and it took about a quart to get it full. I was just wondering if any one else had had this problem and if I'm looking a a serious repair. I'd like to look up some stuff on it so I you could also tell me what kinda trany is in it I'd really apritciate it.

Thanks
JMC

Its 99% most likely your 2-3 shift selenoid. Needs to be replaced. Do it yourself for like 30-40 dollars, or have a shop do it for like 130. I had a shop do mine, because I didn't know it was so easy and cheap to do it by myself.

I guess just take the pan off, pull the old one, pop the new one in, pop the pan back on (of course changing the filter and gasket) and refill the tranny fluid.

Oh, it is an 4L60e tranny BTW. Unless it is aftermarket, but most likely not. They used 4L60 in 93s, but then switched to the electronic version (hence the "e") in 94 and up.

Cool

That sounds easy enough, but do you know of an good manuals that can show me and double check the diagnois. Cause I've never really torn into a tranny, done a fair share of under the hood but nothing really down there. And I'm not sure what to expect. Also incase it matters I found out I'm in first gear when I first start the car but after that it wont go back in.

thanks

I'm not sure of any, but if I'm sure there are many people on here who have done it, so just let them come in.
