Thumbs up My Track Gains from Various Mods!

Just got back from the track after my RR install.

All these have been corrected to SAE conditions, 77 degrees, 29.235 hg, and 0% humidity. All had 2.15 60' times All were at the same track. (Mid Michigan Motorplex, Stanton, MI Altitude of 688 ft.) Car is a fully loaded 1997 Z28, with T-tops, with no weight reduction.

Bone stock with K&N FIPK CAI:
Actual: 14.32 @ 97.87 84 deg, 77% Humidy, 30.13 hg, DA=2600
Corrected: 13.89 @ 100.8

Above Plus MAC Mid Headers, Hooker catback, 275/40-17 tires on 17" SS rims:
Actual: 13.89 @ 101.8 82 deg, 73% Humidity, 30.02 hg DA=2556
Corrected: 13.48 @ 104.8
Gain: 0.43 seconds, 4.0 mph

Above plus 1.6 Pro Magnum RR's:
Actual: 13.57 @ 104.8 mph 69 deg, 59% Humidity, 30.04 hg DA=1546
Corrected: 13.34@ 106.6
Gain: 0.14 seconds, 1.80 mph

Going by my gains, the RR's added about 15 rwhp.

Dan

Yes. I actually ran a 13.57 @ 104.8. Corrected, it looked worse, 13.67 @ 104 mph. I tried to keep things as comparable as possible, and that is why I compared all times that were corrected according to SAE J1349. All of my actual times, as well as weather conditions are listed for all runs.

Looks good Dan. RRs are a great bolt on addition. I have not yet installed
the OBDI PCM and knock sensor. I've been working on the honey do list.

I'd like to thank you for your post. I think many people should do this type of post to show what does what for your times.

Hope all goes well with your install. I know you were pulling your hair out trying to figure out what was going on. Glad to see it was something so simple, although it took a lot of work to finally figure it out.

Thanks. Yeah, I've been frustrated many times trying to decypher how well different mods work, when all you get are some guys track times, and no idea of the other variables involved. Thought I'd try to make things as comparable as I know how. I'll be getting the car dynoed this spring, so I'll know exactly how much HP I gained from the RR's. Judging by how it did at the track, the RR's made a significant difference. I can feel it also.

Dan

Oh, and let me say, I'm extremely happy with my results. Trapping 105 mph with only cai, headers, catback and RR's let's me know that the car is running well and putting down good power for the mods that it has. It's not like the weather was cold either. 70 degrees is not hot, but not cold by any means. The DA was still 714, so it's not like some guys that get lucky enough to hit negative DA's some days.

What type of valve springs did you use? I was thinking of getting a set of 1.6's and using the LT4 hot cam springs.

Re: My Track Gains from Various Mods!

Nice gains and thanks for the post.

I think that all track times should be sae corrected...no one posts actual dyno numbers they wouldn't work to compare. My car with heads and cam will probably be trapping mid to low 13s but im 5500 feat above sea level so they would actually be like mid 12s.

Yes, I put the LT4 springs, retainers, and locks in when I did the 1.6 RR's. I bought them from truedualws6, but they are cheap from www.gmpartsdirect.com also. You can get the part numbers from shoebox's website.

Re: My Track Gains from Various Mods!

Very good post, I think everyone should post like this. Unfortunately I am going to do it from a 14.2 bone stock to lots of mods in sig, but hey at least I know where I stand. Stereomandan, can you explain how you do all of this conversion stuff?

Corrected 1/4 times are not even close to accurate. I ran in the dead heat of summer down here, and trapped 103.6 and my corrected times put me at 107.1mph, but I went back in -900 d/a and only picked up 1.5 mph. Correction factors might be accurate on the dyno, but not in the drag strip, atleast from my experience.
