my idle speed is 1k????
Depends on Tach error. Most tachs on 4 gens seem to be 200-300 high. I believe that 950-1000 is fine, but if your tach is off by the usual amount you may be actually running around 700-800, which, in my opinion, may be too low.
Have someone check your "actual" rpm. JMHO

What does the tach read at 60MPH in 6th gear? If it's around ~1600 RPM then it just reads a couple hundred RPM too high. I think mine read 1600 RPM but actual was about 1400 to 1450 at highway speeds with the stock 3.42 gears and tires.
You are probably correct on stock idle. I think the ideal idle is as low as you can idle smoothly.
I believe mine always showed around 1150-1200 on the tach. When I had small cam installed, I believe it was programmed to idle around 950. It still shows around 1100 on tach.
With the cam, I'm not sure it would idle smoothly at an actual 800, but a stocker might idle very nicely at factory setting.
So if your tach says 1k and your idle is smooth, I wouldn't concern myself about it.JMHO
