Is My Idle Right???

When my car is at idle, it is about 700 - 750 RPM's and seems to have a litte bit of a shudder to the car. I am pretty unfamiliar with the LT1 engine and have had mine for only one year and it has always done this. I was just wondering how smooth the idle is on a well running LT1. At red lights and in gear, mine has a little bit of a shudder. Thanks in advance!!!

For an A4 it's 550 in drive and 650 in neutral. The tach could read about 100-200rpm higher than the actual idle speed.

So it looks like my idle is pretty close the right RPM, how about the shudder thing. Is that normal??

A stock car should idle smoothly. Plugs and wires would be the first suspect. Also easy to check the MAF to see if it is dirty.

Hey Shoebox, I have checked my EGR, its ok, i checked my maf, its ok. When I bought the car the guy had just put on new taylor 8mm wires and new ac delco platinum plugs. Those are both good products, could they be bad. Also it doesnt hesitate when I step on it though, could it still be plugs and wires??

Your tach is probably off. The car should idle at 850-900. I put on indiglo gauges and my tach now reads correctly: idle ~900 and rev limiter at about 6200. I managed to hit it once when I wasnt paying attention when a red LS1 SS wanted to play. I was too busy watching myself get smoked. Anyways, my tach used to say 1000 before I put in gauges. Most tachs are about 100-200 RPM off.

My car idles between 800 and 850. That's off my scanmaster. My tach says around 900.

About the whole shuttering bit. Try cleaning your throttle body with some fuel injection cleaner. It can be caused by build up of carbon and stuff on the throttle plates. Pruducing a **** idle.
