my gosh, another small but annoying problem

when i start my car in the morning or when the motor is completely cold i will hear a high pitched chirping noise coming from the front of the motor that goes up with rpm. funny thing is it will go away after hitting operating temperature it will do away . also i can hear a supercharger whine the goes with rpm but unlike the chirping, will not go away. its kinda sweet, kinda not but the chirping definately isnt. any help would be greatly appreciated

Check the bearings on the idler pulley. It is on the bottom of the motor between the A/C and crankshaft pulleys.

how do i go about checking the bearings? i know to take belt off but then what? would that be the temporary chirping or the supercharger whine? sorry for all the questions but it just really bothers me

I'd check the serpentine belt tensioner as well. When mine went bad, it was making similar noises. I usually use an automotive stethoscope to pinpoint noises like that.

yeah, the chirping may be the tensioner. But the supercharger whine sound may be your k&n.I know mine sound like a supercharger when i romp on it.

well even if i barely throttle it the whine will be there, lol someone earlier at starbucks thought it was blown but no its not the intake, i have a k/n filter only and the whine has not always been there. 2000gtp, did your chirp go away after the engine was warmed? that's where im stumped. i know it has to be a pulley of some sort as i JUST installed a gatorback belt not even a week ago and the tension on it is fine. thanks again everyone

high pitch chirping is most likely a lifter that is bleeding down over night
supercharger sound coule be a number of things
CAI would be my best bet tho

Have you checked your emission air pump? It's only on for the first few minutes you start your car. It makes a very high pitched noise. If yours is going out there will be very annoying and noticeable hi pitched squealing. Disconnect it and then try starting your car, if no noise then bingo, its the air pump. P.S. i installed a gatorback belt last year and it does whine a lot more than a regular belt due to it's unique grooves. It'll make a sound like a supercharger for a few weeks until its broken in.

I get a sound like someone blowing into a bottle. It seems the air entering the car when it is cold causes it and it goes away in minutes. It's strange that it comes and goes.

well its more of a bird chirping noise that i hear, until the stupid motor is warmed up, and its not constant its like every half second or so and will go up with rpm. as far as the supercharger whine, maybe it is the gatorback. i'd rather take care of the stupid bird noise first but i still can't figure out why it will go away once everything's warmed up, 170ish+

The idler pulley is part of the tensioner. Just take the belt of and spin the pulley and make sure it is spinning smooth and free.

And if its not the tensioner pulley, check the a/c clutch pulley too, when the belt is off. The power steering pump can whine too, I flushed my with Valvoline syn PS oil. The gatorback shouldn't whine or chirp, I've got one, unless the waterpump is drippin' AF on it.

once again, i had the same exact problem with my 94z,probably a bleeding down lifter.
It will be a high-pitched "chirp" and once it warms up, it will seal, making the chirping go away.
