My Eagle crank just snaped today

Yep im still in my brake in period, havent pushed the car yet. On the way to work started the car in the driveway was warming it up and all of the sudden i heard a loud thump and felt it, then the supercharger wine stoped. So i thought i threw a belt come to find out that both pulleys are hanging off and a pieace of a keyed crank is still atached to the balancer, i looked under the car theres still like 4-5 threads left in the crank. Its a eagle 4340 crank. What should i do, new crank? but why did it happend beats the hell out of me.

If you had oil in that car it was a defective crank. Good luck getting what you lost outta them.

That's not common with any crank How much did you pay for that thing?

When you contact Eagle, they will probably try and blame it on your machine work, make sure you have documentation on as much stuff dealing with the motor that you can find.

Golens Engine Service Build the buttom end, i dont exactly remember how much the crank was i bought the buttom end as a package, 4340 eagle crank, 4340 eagle h beams, 34cc je dished pistons, everything ran me $3500(complete short block, with timing set and lifters) then i had the crank keyed by another machine shop

It's a little hard to understand. Did you have the crank broached before Golen put it together? Where did you get the components from, the same place that assembled it? Seems if Golen built it, they should warranty it. Unless the crank were defective but if that's the case, they may only replace the crank. Any other damage internally may not be covered. But then since the crank was modified, no one may cover anything.

Re: My Eagle crank just snaped today

This is very common on a blower car when you tighten the blower belt to tight.(get a wider belt). When you replace the crank get one with a BB snout and have another keway cut on the other side for the balancer. Then you won't break it with a lot of belt tension or have the key shear and tear up the new crank. The blower is a hell of a load and it has a lot of leverage on the end of the crank.

Re: My Eagle crank just snaped today

ok i got a few questions then. Where do i buy one of those cranks and the BB size does it fit through the timing cover/seal? Crank and pulley both have to be cut for another key weight correct. ?

Re: My Eagle crank just snaped today

Eagle has the crank for a SB with the BB snout. You will have to get another balancer and have the keyway cut into it along with the crank.Ask Eagle about the seal,They should know where to get one and what to get.Don't ask Joe BLOW ask Eagle and you will get the streight info. Also ask them if they can cut the keway for you when you buy the crank. All machine shops are not set up to do it.You don't HAVE to cut another key but it is cheap insurance.A lot of people don't,but I can't afford to replace a customer's crank because I didn't do it on build up."you should have known" type of thing.

i dont think i should blame golen though, i think they did a good job.
But as far as the crank goes do you guys recomend staying with Eagle or going with something else like DragonSlayer or Lunati?

Re: My Eagle crank just snaped today

I wonder why this happens so much on D1 cars? I've noticed a few 383 with D1 chargers on them with dragonslayer cranks snapping. I think eagle is a great crank unless you plan on pushing past like 750rwhp or something. Just my $0.02
