my dyno results

http://www.arizonafbody.com/temp/seandyno.jpg

pretty good for RWHP considering my car should have 275 stock at the flywheel! I even had my stock airbox on!

first 2 runs are with flowmaster and with cutout open.

the last run is with the cutout closed. as you can see, low end torque is NOT affected.

im happy!!!!

nice numbers.

finally that should shut up all those that say you'll lose torque with the cutout...

i think it's more psychological, you pull out with a cutout open and you think you are at the correct RPM but are thrown off by the added noise...

Good numbers!! My cut out showed 10.2RWHP and 9.4RWTQ open vs. closed. So definitly worth it until i get a borla or something. Damn M6's always show better numbers. But ill roast ya out of the hole. . Later

You didn't lose torque because you are running stock manifolds, y-pipe, and cats - you still have something in your exhaust system to keep exhaust velocity high at the low RPM. The power you gained was simply deleting the catback tubing and mufflers.

Change to 1-3/4" LTs, 3" y-pipe w/o cats, and a cutout and you will lose low end torque. I already posted a dyno graph proving this point.

Your wrong! I dyno'd my car with mac headers, Cai and 1.6rr's. Well the first time i went through the stock cat back with a flomaster muffler welded in and i didn't have a cat on the car. That yeilded me somethign like 271rwhp and 292rwtq. I then unbolted the exhaust right off of the ypipe. You should see the numbers in my sig. BTW I had a huge increase everywhere across the entire powerband. BTW Great numbers madhatter.

The camshaft effects this, stock cam, little or no loose, larger cam, larger loose.

That's one healthy car for being stock with a cutout. Very nice.

Here's my take on the torque issue.

Looks from the dyno like the cut-out gains were at higher RPM's. Torque was similar on both till a little after 2500. Makes sense.

Now on losing torque, I'd say that it's an illusion. Butt-meter feels more torque at the high end and assumes that low end is lost when in fact the only change is at higher RPM's.

How's that?

dyno

My old 96 did 266 RWHP and 300 TQ running hot as hell with a SLP 2OTL and Moroso CAI. There were LT1's that day putting around the same #'s with many more mods. So those are good numbers.

This is almost like beating a dead horse, my torque this my torque that. Chances are we will never come to a conclusion that one warrants a cut out or not.

I say if you want a cutout get the darn thing and have some fun.

Good numbers that you have there.

"YOU'RE"

What were your torque numbers under 2,500 RPM? Can you post your before and after graphs?

I have seen for myself cars lose low end torque (to ME defined as torque under about 2,500) when they have a very open exhaust. This does NOT simply mean "cutout". It can be a lot of tq, it can be a little, it can be none depending on the cam and exhaust system.
