My diff is noisy after 4.11 install

Hey guys. I had a set of GM 4.11 gears installed the other day. (yes, 4.11 not 4.10, 37 and 9 teeth). They setup perfect, the marking compound was right on. All new bearings, seals, etc. Aurburn posi (used, but worked good with the last set). This is my third set of 4.10s/11s in my car, and they are SO nosiy on coast and even light throttle. But they seem to work ok. Gonna go get it re-set and re-checked next week, but seriously, I saw the pattern myself, looked good. Anyone else encounter noise with their 4.10s/11s? Thanks guys.

Yes a good pattern is needed when installing gears but you also have to make sure what the backlash was set right. I think GM gears call for backlash to be set between .008-.012.

I trust this guy a lot, he has built a lot of good trannies and diffs that I have seen. He says everything setup pefect. The gears were used though, they looked ok, but they were used. I heard its normal for some 4.10s to whine a bit, is this true? What about the 4.11 gears (37 and 9 teeth) with even a smaller pinnoin? Thanks guys.

I do not think there should be any whine even though they are used gears. Unless you are running Richmond gears.

My Motive 3.73's whine on decel (loudest at about 55mph). A friend had a GM Dealer install his Richmond 4.10's and his are quiet as stock although he did pay dearly for it.

I've had 4.10's in two different cars and they both whined quiet a bit. The car I'm driving now whine with GM motive gears and they were installed by DTS, about the best place you could go. I think your very lucky to have 4.10's and not have some noise.

I had 3 different sets of gears in this rear end, all whined. But these whine a lot more! They are annoying.
