my compression test results and questions?
my compression test results and questions?
i just did a compression test and i had very consitent results all averageing in the 155 range and max in the 170 range.
Are these good results for an engine with 133k on it.
Keep in mind i want to supercharge it
Thanks for the input

Rule of thumb is you should be 10% w/in your highest reading. I think on average for a stock engine you should be in about the 165 to 170psi range.
I wouldn't suggest supercharging your engine with that many miles.

IMO, I'd build the engine with at least rods and pistons before you supercharge. If not just go for the bottle.
Re: my compression test results and questions?
I have been told a lot about supercharging in the last 3-4 months. I have not herd they are ticking time bombs though. I have herd that they are work horses and are built to last. I have also been told i would be fine to supercharge it if i run just a mere 8-9 psi a most on the stock pistons and high compression ratio. This is why i tested my compression today so i could find out if i should rebuild it first. However i know i must be carful with it and if blow it up i will just end up rebuilding it anyways.

The numbers are relatively consistent which is good.
To me though the numbers look low maybe the cam in the b-bodies makes for higher cranking compression though as the stock LT1 in my Roadmater wagon cranked 190-200psi the couple times I checked just a few cylinders and that was over 170K on it.
Cam differences gauge differences and testing procedures can all make a difference though so consisten readings within the same engine are the key.
