My car has extremely strong gas fumes HELP!

My 1995 Camaro Z28 has extremely strong gas fumes and I know the gas cap isn't leaking because I swapped it with another one. I asked a guy who knows a lot about Camaros and he said this:

"If you are certain the gas cap is not leaking, look to the
evap emissions canister. Check the solenoid on the driver's
side rear of the intake manifold. If it is sticking open,
it will allow the tank to vent through the intake manifold.
(a potentially explosive environment) Also check the
canister itself in front of the Passenger's side tire under
the fascia. It may have been bumped hard enough to cause it
to crack."

I lost my job, so I can't take it to the dealership right now to get it fixed. I've never worked on my car so I'm not familiar with what most things are or look like. Can anyone show me pictures of what the evap emissions canister, the solenoid on intake manifold, and the canister in front of one of the passenger side wheels looks like on a '93-'96 Camaro Z28 so I can check them??

I'd really, really, really, appreciate any help anyone can offer!

When you experience a strong gas odor, there's usually only these things that can be the culprit:

1.) Bad gas cap.
2.) Broken lines to the charcoal canister or a bad canister. The canister is located in the driver side rear quarter panel behind the plastic fender liner. Poke your head into the wheelwell and see if the odor is stronger back there.
3.) Broken or leaky fuel lines. Check all three of them. One is to the rails, one is back to the tank, and one goes to the EVAP purge solenoid.
4.) EVAP purge solenoid has bad connections. The EVAP purge solenoid is located on the passenger side of the intake manifold. One line goes to the left side of the throttle body, and the other line goes to the bundle of fuel lines coming out of the driver side.
5.) Stuck injector.
6.) Leaky injector o-ring in the injector boss of the intake manifold.
7.) Bad fuel pressure regulator. Check the fuel pressure KOEO and the vacuum line on the back of the regulator.

These are pretty much all of your choices. Number #2, 4, and 7 are the most common, while the others are rarities. Best thing to do is to sniff around and pinpoint where the smell is coming from, and we can help you from there. Good luck!

Alright, I found the solenoid and stuff on the passenger side of the intake manifold, it looks ok, but could be tighter, the engine is a little hot so I'll have to try pushing the things on in a little while. *shakes burnt hand*

I'm having a lot of trouble finding the canister though, I can't get too far underneath my car and I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I did a search on google and only found a pic of what a Jeep's evap emissions canister looks like, and I didn't see anything like that down there. Can you take a picture of it for me please? And a picture of where I need to look for it exactly? Or just circle it in one of the pictures I just took?

It's not under the car.

Look into the drivers side rear fenderwell. Towards the top there will be one screw, and towards the back there will be another. unscrewing them both will release this plastic fenderwall piece, and allow you to look at the charcoal canister.

Is this what you are talking about?

If so, are those the 2 screws, in the picture, that you are talking about? I can't get my head in there to look for any others real easily.

Yep, that's the cover. Remove all applicable screws, and it should come right off.
