My car is eating IAC's?!
This is the third one my car has eaten, including the original. Replaced one at 54K, 55k, and around 56k miles. What is wrong here? It just started this summer? Is it the heat? I have been using an advance auto parts replacement but this is getting rediculous. Only does it after a long drive, like after sitting in traffic, and getting the temp up (210 to be exact). Could this be an electrical problem or a parts problem (ie crappy parts). Can this be caused by excessive heat soak? My car has the TBB and i heard it can make the TB hotter in some cases.
while in gear my car will surge and the rpm's will go to about 1.5k or so. Then the surging will stop for a few seconds and then come back. I have a feeling my IAC gets too hot and messes up the plastic inside it (someone had a made a post a few weeks ago on how they took apart a back IAC and said it looked "melted") Also, after I turn the a/c off it wants to die for just a split second, just like when it recovers from the surging while stopped. Everytime i replace the IAC, it goes away until it goes bad again.
A side note, my ACdelco original IAC was loose. It will move side to side? I didnt force it or anything but noticed it when i was cleaning it. Is that normal?

The iac controls idle speed. Basically any time your foot is off the gas it determines the engine speed. Unless your car doesnt idle right, i dont see how it would make it constantly stumble.
I just went to advance to get another replacment covered by their warranty program. Hopefully number three is lucky. It comes in tomorrow-wish me luck.
Does anyone know why my car would do this if it is NOT the iac? I cant think of anything else besides o2 sensors, but my car only has 56k miles, and I just got 17 mpg in city driving.
Is an ACDelco replacement next on the list if this part fails again?
