went to the track tonight, im really disapointed, my best n/a was a 13.91@99.78 while i watched another z run 13.69@102,, well the reason im mad is that i have a 2800 stall,slp headers, y pipe, magnaflow catback, cutout, k&n fipk, 3.73's, madz28 chip, 160 t stat, taylors ovtc wires, and bfg drag radials, his mods: homemade cai, mac shortys, he was also an auto and even running on street tires, so what could be wrong with my car not running up to par with one that i should of took easlily?????????? please help

 

Had a tune up lately? new plugs, O2's, fuel filter...

 

Well, we weren't there to see driving skill but that's a possibility. As is condition and maint. And what about weight? Have anything heavy in the car they didn't? Are you much bigger than the driver of the other Z? What RPM is your car shifting at? Just trying to throw ideas at you.

While conditions could have been a factor your time seems a bit slow to me. I used to run 13.8-13.9 in my 95 Formula A4 with just a CAI and cat-back with street tires. Haven't run my Z yet.

 

i havent changed plugs in a while, i dont know bout the fuel filter though,,,, the other guy was bigger than i was and i dont have anything in the car but stock interior and a nx bottle,, i can drive pretty good, i got runner up tonight after redlighting with a -001 lol

 

I didn't see a 60' time mentioned...that makes alot of differance.

 

Even with a bad 60' i think his mph is still a little low.

Haha, yeah, I'm of the lazy at the light variety..... never in danger of good reaction times, and definately not red lighting.

You may want to swap out plugs and a fuel filter is cheap and easy, might as well. O2s can be a bit more of a pain to check. Since you have NX you may want to double check fuel pressure too, could potentially suck to find out the pump isn't delivering the goods while you're spraying.

Also, how old is your opti cap and rotor?

 

i got some new ngks to put in it, just havent had time yet since im on leave from iraq, the opti and rotor was replaced by a dealer b4 i bought it, 3years and about 40,000 miles

 

Ya i just noticed that...thats what i get for posting late at night lol.

Something is wrong you should be trapping at least 100 mph. Any missfireing or anything or does everything seem to run fine.

 

With SLP headers, off road pipe, flowmaster catback, electric waterpump, CAI and drag radials I trapped almost 103(auto). Since you have a stall and gears I think you should be in the 103 range. Look at all the simple and cheap stuff first, and don't just start throwing parts at it.

 

What kind of converter do you have. it could be too loose and that could kill a couple of mph in the quarter.

If your cutting 1.8 60's and with your mods you should be mid 13's at 101-103mph no prob.

Heck with just Mac shortie headers, an off road y-pipe, cold air, and a cutout on the stock exhaust i was running 13.8 @ 102 with a 2.0 60' on street tires, with a better 60' i could have been 13.4-13.6.

how was the weather? because i noticed that you have a 1993 which is NOT a mass air car. the MAP sensor cars are sensitive to weather changes and that could be hurting you too.

 

I dont think O2's are going to help his problem. Correct me if I am wrong but arent the O2's not used at WOT?

I would agree that your trap speed is low but I wouldn't judge the running of your car off another. Two cars always will run differently, and there will always be that car out there the just runs fast for no reason. for example i have a friend with a 94 Z that has CAI, exhaust, computer tune and 3.73's and he ran 13.3's it never made sense.
