My Camaro get's hot
When I turn off my car, a 96 z28, the temperture goes up, sometimes close to the red line depending on how hot it was when I turned the car off, is this normal? Is it causing damage, if it is not normal is there anything I can do to fix it. The coolant is full, Thanks for you time.
Here is the reason why. When the car is started, it can cycle the coolant through the radiator/pump/block and keeps it cool. But when you turn the car off, the block is still hot so it heats up your coolant thus making your temp raise. After the block has cooled, your coolant then cools, and your temp gauge will go down.
Its like the hot rock theory. Heat a rock up for a few minutes then leave it and come back and touch it, you'll be burned. Just because you stopped heating the rock doesn't mean it will be cool right when you stock. Our block is the same way. Once it heats up, it takes awhile for it to cool down. Get an electric pump nad manual fan switch, you'll really love yourself and your car will stay cool all the time, even when the engine isn't running.
