My build thread. Few questions

Trying to wrap up the buying of parts for my build.

1995 M6 car.
LT1 stroked 383

what i have:

-forged eagle crank
-forged eagle hbeams

-forged srp pistons
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/parts-...d-pistons.html

here is the first question. I dont really plan on spraying or boosting. these are the parts that came with my build. I was thinking i should switch to flat tops. Now how much power will this rob? its going to dump my compression some if i keep these dished. or maybe not depending on true numbers of my heads and gaskets i use?

-afr lt4 competition heads ported 195cc? i need to get heads checked i purchased them and seem to have lost the complete info
-lt4 intake
-bauer cam matched to my heads 240/240 on a 110
-ls7 lifters
-comp pro mags NSA 1.6 w/guide plates
-42lb injectors
-pacesetter longtubes, true dual 3" exhaust

what i dont have:

-58mm throttle body
-piston rings what rings should i go with? no plans on boost and i plan on getting flat tops
-clutch, competition stage 3 is planned
-push rods, waiting on measure
-tune will be done local

what else am i missing? im trying to get everything together so i can take block in and have it assembled. i know i dont have tons of info or all the technical numbers but i thought someone might be able to help a little

now this setup made 450rwhp im hoping to achieve right around the same. let me know how stupid i sound or maybe just some insight. thanks

Re: My build thread. Few questions

A 383 compresses more air than a 350 so the pistons may be OK even if they are slightly dished. You need to verify the volume of your heads and then the volume of the dish of the pistons, and the deck height, and I assume 4.030 for hole dia., and and figure out your static compression ratio. You can alter this with your gasket choice some. Then have your cam grinder help you with dynamic compression calculations and figure out if it falls in the zone or not for that cam. If he tells you that it needs more static compression to get the right dynamic compression, then you will have to see what a gasket change or possibly new pistons will get you.

Those pistons will be fine, just have the heads milled some to bump the compression up - your machine shop can do the calculation for you. They also can supply a set of moly top rings to fit those pistons, you don't need anything special.
