My buddy's Z needs help on next mod...

My buddy has a 95Z A4 with underdrives, 160 stat, airfoil, ported MAF, exaust cutout, 3.73 gears 315 BFG DR's, and the computer upgrade. Before the DR's and gears he was doing 9.0@80mph in the 1/8th, now he's going 8.8@76mph. Well, we raced at the track and the auto, traction pulled mine off the line but in second gear and on I pulled away. The bottom end of the powerband is great, but it just doesn't have any topend.

What my question is, what mod should he do to help out the upper hp levels. What kind of difference would headers make? What about the Moroso CAI, the stock one bottlenecks pretty bad? We've seen cams on stock motors and arn't that impressed, or would a mild cam be a good option? 1.6RR's?

I miss the days when we raced side by side, but now it isn't even much of a race, I'd love to see his car pull mine.

Don't know how much he'll gain with headers since he has a cutout, so I'd do CAI first. I have the Moroso (it's ok, it was cheap), and just put Jet-Hot LTs on (500 bucks), but then, I don't have a cutout.

Next - shift kit / trans cooler / converter

What kind of difference did your headers make?

I've seen a 94Z, stock engine run 8.1 on the 1/8th with just slicks, gears, 2100 stall converter, and a built tranny, otherwise stock. He put on headers and exuast and ran 7.9!

Didn't run at the track yet with the headers, but I figure 30-40 rwhp (I got rid of the cats / AIR / EGR at the same time).

Definitely a good mod for 500 bucks.

BTW, I have a '94 Formula A4

Well for sure his next mod should be cai. I would suggest a SLP, or the Ligenfelter one. A cai helps up a lot up top. Besides it will help out with all the other mods. It doesn't help to much to get more air out the the car if you can't get anymore in. Also headers would help out a lot. I think with headers and a cai he would keep up again. Also a nice stall would help out alot.

Headers i would say.

20-30 for LT's
15-23 for some good Mids
10-15 for some shorties

But those are just guesses

For sure get a CAI....with a CAI and the addition of shortie BBK headers, my car gained on average about .25-.3 and about 3mph in the 1/4. I was running about 13.7@ 101-102mph. I then added the hotcam kit which comes with 1.6RR and also had my computer tunned. I now run 13.2-13.3@106-107. Best run is in the sig. This is also with 2.1 60fts. The MPH is easily a mid 12 sec. run if I could only launch.

This is great... Come to the CZ28 forum and ask why your buddies 95Z is slower than your 1990 Scumstang....

Why raise the BS flag and laugh, a "scumstang" beating a Z28 isn't possible, or even likley? Do you think I am only posting to brag or something? There are thousands of Mustangs that can hand you your a$$. Well, no hard feelings, we get some F-body guys on our boards with legit questions and comments and some biased Ford freak has to make ignorant comments.

My buddy doesn't have internet, and we get alot of mixed answers when we ask people. He was looking into some serious mods but the 4L60E gave out setting him back $1500. We were thinking of the Moroso CAI, and was it worth it, or best bang for the buck. Does it suck up water. The Z28 in question is lowered with the Eibach Pro-kit and drop spindles.

FYI, his car pulled mine slightly until I did the heads, rr's, intake, TB, and MAF. I've got a cam on my dresser, and am saving for LT's with and H or X or prochamber. Well, as soon as I get a new alt that blew today, hey Fix Or Repair Daily does apply, but thats why races are held in the evening. I wish we could line up.

Sorry, I can't stand biased people. All I hang out with are F-body guys. I don't have any "stanger" friends. They are hardcore GM guys but arn't ignorant. If I were to buy a different car, it would be a Z28 for shure. I like them 10X over the newer Mustangs. I love my Foxbody(light, easy and cheap to mod). I wasn't the topic.

I'm not questioning your car. I'm simply stating that its ironic. Maybe not BS, persay. But Ironic.... I'll remove the BS flag if it'll make you feel better....

Edit: BTW - a friend of mine has a 95 GT... its just fun to **** off stangers' I'm sorry....

Tell him to get the CAI,headers, some 1.6:1 RR's.That should catch him up.No worries about sucking water,if you go deep enough to do that you have more problems thaan that.FYI,I like the old 5'0 s.Lots of potential there. Its all good.
