Is my Alternator Dying ?? ?? ??

for some reason the LT1 car kept dying even after jumping it off in a day it would be drained again. We checked all wires and no luck. Bought a new battery and it worked great for 3 days then same thing and I had to jump it. Advance tested it and said its putting out 13.5 volts when it should be putting out 14.5 or higher. Would this cause this and if so is it a sign the alternator is going. I have only experienced one alternator problemin my life and it went completely out one day on my IROC not gradually.

Alt voltage should be 13.8 to 14.2 with the air, lights and stereo on at about 2000RPM's.
Anything less,replace the alt.
If the bat is weak the the voltage won't come up that high. Make sure the bat is close to full charge when checking for these voltages.

no a/c , radio , or anything power was on and at 2000rpms 13.5 was what it was putting down. The battery was brand new and had cranked the car only 3 times before it sat for two days and got drained again

Check the current from the battery while everything is off. Seems your problem is a drain when it is not running rather than an alternator problem.

What I'm talking about is when the cables are connected to the battery, something is drawing current even though the car is turned off. By removing one of the battery cables and measuring the current draw between the battery terminal and the cable, you can determine if anything is drawing current.

BTW if you have one of those big thumping amplifiers, I'll bet that is were the currnent draw is.

yeah it was my brothers car and he did have a system in it at one point but I gutted every wire that was not nailed down inside that sucker but im not sure if maybe there is a partial wire spliced in somewhere i missed that may be sucking it but i gotcha, thats why he should have had someone install it instead of doing it himself
