Ok, i replaced my opti when i first put this engine in my iroc. It lasted about 3k miles. Since then i have put 3 other optis in it and each one has only lasted about 5 days. WHY? This car is the only transpertation i have and its getting to be a really big PITA. I dont know if its because one of my vent tubes is plug or what, but i had to plut one of them because my car wouldnt idle for **** with it plug in to the intake. I have bought new vent tubes and i plan on putting them on when i put the new opti on whenever that is. Thanks for the help guys.

Its a 96 opti, two of them where GM opti's the one that lasted 3k miles was from auto zone.
When i take the opti apart i see that all the prongs for each cylender have some cerotion (some white stuff) built up and on the rotor there is some blue ****. It seems that i can predict each time its about to go out on me again. All i have to do is listen to the idle. The last time it was running for about 20 minutes, then i was stopped in the bank and then the idle was jumping from 500rpms-2500rpms. Then it just died. I was able to get it started one more time but it only ran for about a second then died. Now it only cranks over. I will put another opti on and put these new vents on it to see why the hell the opti only lasts for a few days.

Each time you replace the opti the car runs great again?
I don't know that a waterpump leak could kill an opti in two weeks, but you might make sure your waterpump isn't weaping onto your opti. You might change your plugs and wires too, just to make sure there isn't a bad one (or get one plug and try switching it with the others one at a time to see if you can find a bad one). Also check the opti-to-coil plug.
Just a couple ideas.

Just a couple ideas.
It is normal for there to be evidence of the spark jumping from the rotor to the plug wire posts. A small amount will not keep it from working. Perhaps there is something else that is failing. Do you get any DTCs with it? How about your engine grounds, are they good?
Ok guys, my wirres and plugs are ok. The coil to opti wire is in bad shape but works ok. I just put the opti back on (the one that just went out and i opened it up and cleaned it up.) Now the car starts right up and runs fine. I put new vent tubes on it and im hopping that was the problem with it in the first place. But im not sure it was.
It is the stock coil. It has a new ignition moduel.
I have tryed a new coil but that was not the problem, i dont if the coil is problem to what the stuff is that is building up inside the opti witch stops the car from running?? i dont know wtf is up with it.
