My 383 Dyno Numbers

A few hours ago, I took my car to dyno.

I give you fLywheel numbers. Doesn't those numbers seems low??? I was expecting to see over 500 Flywheel HP

3718 RPM --- 282.6 HP --- 262.7 RWHP --- 514.7 NM
4267 RPM --- 333.0 HP --- 308.0 RWHP --- 528.3 NM
4761 RPM --- 373.3 HP --- 342.6 RWHP --- 531.0 NM
5211 RPM --- 406.6 HP --- 369.5 RWHP --- 528.3 NM
5621 RPM --- 438.5 HP --- 394.4 RWHP --- 528.2 NM
5997 RPM --- 464.6 HP --- 413.0 RWHP --- 524.5 NM
6413 RPM --- 477.1 HP --- 417.1 RWHP --- 508.8 NM (the max power is at 6413 RPM) -> is this normal?
6633 RPM --- 463.2 HP --- 395.9 RWHP --- 472.8 NM

Car:
1997 Camaro Z28 (M6)

Engine:
Forged 383cid
210cc AFR heads (282cfm @ .600)
LT4 Intake (only gasket matched, no extra porting )
240/246dur. ~575lift 112.7lsa
30lb Ford Motorsports (43.5psi FP) -> maybe it is fuel related??

Exhaust:
Kooks LTs with Cats (high flow cats came with Kooks LTs)
Borla Cat-Back (open plate)

Trans:
Viper Spec T56
10 Bolt Rear End
Stock Driveshaft

Those do seem to be way off. I would expect 450RWHP or 530+ FWHP out of that setup. The lift on that cam with AFR 210s, and a 383 seems low to me. Were the heads ported or are they out of the box units.

Re: My 383 Dyno Numbers

I'm no expert but ive never seen a dyno measure in fwhp. Is that possible? Also, the 30lb injecotrs seems a bit small

Yes AFRs are out of the box units. (competition ported).

Could be my unported LT4 intake the reason of low power???

You took the car to the dyno, the engine is IN the car? If so why do you have flywheel HP numbers? Also, you need 42 lb injectors in that car.

What are your cam specs? Peak numbers are not the MOST important thing in the world but I would expect better numbers from STOCK LT1 CASTINGS. The cam seems SMALL in terms of lift to me for that displacement and type of heads.

First, was that the final TUNED numbers for the engine or is it just the numbers that the engine put down without tuning? And I am ASSUMING this is on an ENGINE dyno NOT a CHASSIS dyno. That is the only way I see you getting FWHP numbers.

If it was in the car and the numbers were stated to be flywheel HP then they have to be calculated as there is no way I know of to get FWHP from a CAR dyno.

If these are the only set of dyno numbers they gave you are you sure it is FWHP and not RWHP.

Re: My 383 Dyno Numbers

That cam should peak higher than 6400 rpm. You have Datamaster, what is your injector duty cycle at the top of the rpm range? Also, did you get a graph? Was there a wideband setup hooked up? What's the a/f? Did Ion take any timing out up top when you were getting new tunes trying to get rid of the knock?

It's weird because 477 fwhp seems low, but 477 rwhp is too high. I agree that there is no way they did an engine dyno test. Unless, they added the approximate 15% driveline loss.

Re: My 383 Dyno Numbers

If he has a stock fuel system would it deliver enough fuel even if he had #42 injectors?

Re: My 383 Dyno Numbers

As NM those numbers do not seem to compute as far as claimed HP---HP actually seem a bit high. JMHO

Mine ran out of fuel with 30#ers and a stock pump.

You are correct. Because, 1 newton meter = 0.737562149 pound feet of torque.
HP = Torque*RPM/5252

So, at the peak, 6413 RPM, you should have 458.2 hp, not 477.1.

The results provided aren't adding up at all.
