My 383 Dyno Numbers

I just finished building my 383 stroker. I took the car to Protech in Canada to have the dyno tuning done by Vince McCawley. The numbers are 420rwhp and 436rwtq. This was at 6300 rpms. I was especially please because this is the first motor that I have built. We were having trouble with the opti breaking up around 5400rpms. I believe that the car has more unfound power since the opti is bad, the tb is stock as well as the intake. The heads are stock with stock valves and were ported and assembled by Jason Short. I feel the car is making good power now and could easily make more. I have a fogger that I was going to put on it but, I have been contemplating selling it in order to buy a 12 bolt instead. Feel free to comment on whether I should sell the fogger for a 12 bolt or not. I can not have both right now and I am sure it will only be a matter of time before the stock rear-end goes bad.

Cool

Nice numbers for some home ported heads by Jay .

I would get the car ready for abuse (pick up the 12 bolt).

Good luck.

Great numbers! I didn't know Jason ported heads, what kind of flow numbers are they pushing? Also, what cam are you using? Sounds like there's more in her after some minor tweaking, keep us posted.

Jason can tell you the flow numbers. The exhaust was at least 200 at .400 if I recall correctly. I can not remember the intake flow #'s. This is one of the few sets of heads he has ported. He has been quite busy with school. The cam is cc 306.

Andrew,

I'm looking forward too .

One more thing...get that opti fixed! I had a high rpm studder after a cam swap a while back. I gained 5mph after I replaced it (107.5mph on my shakedown passes and then 112.5mph my next track visit). I had a GTP6 cam (almost the same as the 306) - it likes to rev without opti hiccups!

See ya Saturday
Ryan

The H.P. #'s look good but I like the torque #'s better. I wish I could get my little 350ci. to put out those kind of torque #'s N/A but that won't happen. Now on the gas thats a different story I will be dynoing very soon to see how much over 400rwhp my little 350 can put down. I am looking for 500+rwhp and 550-600rwtq on a 150-175shot. Later Clint

Vince does excellent LT1 tuning eh Andrew!

I had him dyno tune my car a couple of weeks ago at Protech, and he picked up 11rwhp and more than 30 foot pounds of torque in my midrange! It's like a totally different car now, it feels strong right off idle and pulls smoothly and strongly to the redline like it never did before. I'm now making 265rwhp, which is pretty amazing for a stock LT1 automatic with just a catback as it's only mod! (even the airbox is still factory stock!)

Cool! Congrats! Vince is a hell of a tuner, and John at Protech is one of the nicest, most Honest guys on the planet.

thats one of the better sets of numbers I have seen with the 306 cam, especially given your circumstances (sounds like the car does have more power in it)
