Is my 1997 Z28 flooded? Odd situation..

Ok well, today It was 50 degree's in metro detroit, so after seeing the teenies enjoying their cars all day at work, I was hell bent to get mine out.

Got home, pulled the car cover off with no intention of it starting (I've owned Many LT1's, they never start after six months sitting still...), and although the battery was dying, as it cranked, it fired like a brand new car.

I decided to let it sit (major error..) while i went inside, I knew it had low fuel, but it was worth it for me to let the carbon build up burn out, and let her idle..

grabbed the family, and headed to the gas station after about 15 minutes of idling, I knew it was a risk, but even on E i thought i had about 10 blocks in her (to the neariest gas station), well I was around about 8 blocks in she started to stumble, like it was out of gas, I coasted it to the corner and attempted to crank it, Nothing - Just a momentary ingite, and stumble - stall.

So i walked up to get some fuel, poored it in, still the same thing happened, stumble, stall - Called my wife, to come as the battery was starting to die from the excessive cranking, and I did pump the gas a bit (ignorant I know), Then it just stopped attempting to start, it will crank but no igniting of any sort, I came back two hours later, and STILL it won't start,it just keeps cranking without any signs of ignting, i don't know the average flood time on an LT1 (although I did it alot growing up rofl, i had no gas money!) Does this sound like a flooding issue? I could smell fuel in the begining, but now i can't, the pump is working, its very loud and evident..

Ideas? I read a W.O.T will do a "Clear flood" on the PCM, but have yet to try, any ideas? Its just chilling on the side of the road lol.

What carbon build up are you referring to? From sitting? Never heard of carbon from sitting. How old is the fuel in the tank? How much did you put in fresh? Could the old crap gas have clogged the pump sock or the inline filter? What's the fuel pressure? Why is your pump loud? All the vehicles I've seen, when the pump is loud it usually means it's time for a new one.

Several easy things you can do in no particular order.

Scan it. If no codes assume problem is high voltage side of the distributor OR fuel pressure.

Squirt fuel in the intake, no light you know it's probably a spark problem.

Pull at least 4 plugs and check for spark at the 4 corner cylinders.

Not loud per se, just the normal GM "eeeehhhh" when you initial turn the key when its priming the motor, Im going to check for spark later today, its sat for 8 hours, if it was flooded it should be cleared by now (or I hope), It could be a clogged fuel filter / Line, I don't know, Just odd how it went from attempting to start, to doing absolutely nothing... It has nearly six gallons of fuel in it now, sat overnight - so their should be no reason why it doesnt start, but we shall see.

Alright, I know I might only be 18 years old but I have a few suggestions you could try.

- Turn key to accessories and then back off 3-4 times and try to start on the fourth turn. If still no start then...

- Unplug the fuel filter on the side after it's been filtered (closest to the engine) and leave the other side plugged in. Now get a pan (just to be safe) and aim the filter into the pan. Now turn your key to the on position and if gas doesn't shoot out of your filter due to the fuel pumps pressure then turn your car off of accesories and then...

- Take off the other side of the fuel filter and turn the key to the on position again and see if gas flows out. A few more options are...

- Check for spark in your opti-spark distributor - GM says these are for for 80,000 miles but they like to go out between every 8,000 - 80,000.

- Check your spark plugs. If you tapped your gas pedal, you more than likely flooded your engine. Normally you can just let it sit and let the gas evaporate and fire it up again but when you flood your engine, you also flood your spark plugs. To me, this sounds like the problem.

- Also, if you have gas coming out of your fuel filter then it is, more than likely, a spark issue.

- If you have gas coming out of your lines after you take off your fuel filter then your filter was clogged.

- If you don't have any gas coming out after you take off the fuel filter then your fuel pump is going out and/or is bad.

- The propper way to start a vehicle after it has ran out of gas is to put gas into your tank, turn your key onto accessories and then back off 3-4 times (this allows your fuel pump to push some of the full through your lines and filter), and then start up the vehicle.

- Also, for future reference, it is never good to let any vehicle sit for more than a week with less than a 1/4 tank of gas. The reason is because this allows water and residue to build up inside of your fuel filter and when you go to fire it up a week later, turns out you have a clogged filter.

I hope some of this information helped and I'm sorry if it's a little long

If none of this seems to help, there are a few other causes and if you need me to make this more understandable/neater then I will
