Mufflex 4" sound clips - Spintech/Flowmaster

Hey Guys,

I see this asked every so often so just thought I'd post this pretty good comparison.

The recordings were made today with the car in the same place and the recorder in the same place, same recording method, so basically, the only difference you are hearing is the difference in the mufflers

Here is a Mufflex 4" exhaust with the single in/single out 4" Spintech muffler. This recording is using a custom made dual tip Mufflex outlet made to look like the SLP Two On The Left.

Sound clip - Spintech 4" single in/single out

Here is a Mufflex 4" exhaust with the single in/single out 4" Flowmaster series 30 muffler.

Sound clip - Flowmaster Series 30 4" single in/single out

So, that'll give those interested a good comparison of the sound difference comparing the two systems. Not too often can you get everything recorded exactly the same with the only difference being the muffler so this might help some trying to make a decision.

Enjoy!

Hmm... Yeah, I'm not sure which one I like more. I think the Spintech is a bit more tame sounding though

The Flowmaster sounds more aggressive. The thing I like about the Spintech is the rasp. I for one, hate raspy sounding exhaust, but the Spintech has a rasp about it that sounds good and isn't annoying.

Go with the Spintech, it sounds much better, esp. in person.

I probably agree. I know it's a completely different car, but my friend just put dual Spintech's (Pro Street) on his 89 5.0 Stang. 331 stroker, cam, AFR heads, BBK LT's, H pipe, Spintechs, and turndowns. He had dual Flowmaster 40's series on it. The Spintechs sound A LOT better. You can hear the cam a lot better since it doesn't have as much bass as the Flowmaster. Sounds a lot meaner in person I guess.

I have a friend that bought the Mufflex 4" w/the Spintech and then switched over to the 4" Flowmaster single in/single out. So I have heard both and I really liked the Flowmaster alot better. Although it was ALOT louder also.

It's too bad that both of those mufflers hurt horsepower.

Mufflex really should consider selling decent mufflers.

Hows that? Spintech's are supposed to be very good mufflers. Now I have heard that the Flowmasters are restrictive on our cars but not the Spintechs.

You haven't heard?

I won't name any names, but a local F-body shop (I'm in Baton Rouge, LA), built a heads/cam LS1 that already had a Spintech 4" exhaust. The car was low on hp. After tinkering with various things, they removed the muffler and picked up 30 rwhp on the next dyno pull.

The next time I was at the track with my friends '88 IROC (406, AFR's, Carb, Hooker LT's, 3.5" Spintech), I recommended removing the muffler. His car went from consistent 117 mph to consistent 120 mph, just by removing the Spintech.

Well of course if you take a muffler off and run straight headers its gonna run faster but will that pass emission's??? I want some kinda muffler on my car cause bullets and cutouts are way to loud.

What would you say is the best flowing muffler out there?
