MSD rotor and cap install

I am getting ready to install a MSD cap and rotor in an OEM Opti that was damaged. I have the new unit and it has at least 3 (maybe 4; I don't have it w/ me) round (didn't see a square o-ring as referenced in other threads)rubber o-rings, including one w/ a lip. The instructions make no reference to these, so I am not exactly clear where they go. Any assistance on this is appreciated.

Also, initially I plan to cap off the "vent" line coming from the base of the cap and not fill in the 3 holes at the base of the aluminum backing as stated in the instructions. Is that going to create any problems? Eventually, I plan to hook up the "vent" function as it appears all hoses are provided w/ the cap and rotor.

Any other suggestions or words of wisdom on this install from anyone who has done it (especially Lloyd Elliott!) would be much appreciated. I do have a back-up Opti if this project goes south.

Thanks!
Mike

Could the number of O-rings correspond to some number of screws?????

Why wait to vent it later?

Ok...the "3 seals" was really a single seal (large O-ring) w/ a square arc in it that goes between the spacer and the base of the Opti. There were no other seals, round or square, w/ the cap and rotor.

1. The MSD rotor screws are too short so I want to get longer #3-32 screws. Any idea where I can get these? Went to Home Depot w/ no luck. The ones I removed from the original rotor are stripped or I would reuse them.

2. I did a trial fit and it appears the rotor rubs on the seperator when I rotate it. It is my understanding that the rotor should rotate very easily w/o contact w/ the seperator. There were no other shims w/ the rotor and cap. Any help here is appreciated.

Thanks!
Mike
